This is our first time staying at a Mimaru and at this location as it was recommended to us by a local resident in Tokyo. The staff here are wonderful—all are so friendly with smiles and very helpful and they make you feel welcomed. All are so efficient and competent. Thank you to a great bunch of staff!||Our room was a family room #601 with 2 beds and 2 bunk beds at about 377 sq feet. The photos on the hotel site make the room appear larger but for North Americans like ourselves with 3 grown adults, this room was very compact and feels cramped. If you have a lot of baggage, you would need to place them strategically in the room to make room for moving around. They do have a fairly large closet and you can ask for luggage racks so the suitcases can be placed inside the closet to save space.||The room is extremely clean with no unpleasant odour at all. Kitchen has a small induction cook top equipped with skillet, pot, cutlery, dishes, cutting board, big knife, sponge, dish soap, paper towels and even a roll of saran. there was already a small rice cooker, microwave, and a good size fridge in the room but you can always borrow toasters, toaster oven, and etc from front desk at no charge. There is NO coffee machine so we went to Daiso and bought a dripper and filter paper to make our own java in the morning. |It is a kitchenette so there is no oven or dish washer. ||The living room has a large rectangular table and the sofa doubles as a sofa bed and 3 stools and the TV faces the sofa. Unfortunately the TV does not swivel towards the beds so cannot watch TV in bed which was disappointing. ||The shower and bath tub are separate from the toilet and the shower area is quite large with the tub. All the towels are white and fluffy and not the sad 3 star hotels some use in North America. Plenty of hand and bath towels provided but there are no face cloths so bring your own if you like face cloths. ||The 2 beds with duvet are very comfortable as the mattresses do not sag and it’s fairly firm but not too firm…just perfect. 2 pillows per each bed and the duvet is wonderful and the thread count on the linen is better than average. Last year we stayed at Tokyu Stay in Shinjuku and the bed linen was so rough that caused rash on my legs. By the 2 beds are USB outlets and light switches and outlet for charging electronics which was very handy. ||The AC/heat work very well in the room and fairly quiet but if you are a light sleeper you may still hear it. The windows are frosted and have movable screens and the windows can be opened a little bit. We would have preferred the windows not frosted so we can look out since there is the screen for privacy. At times, i did feel somewhat claustrophobic without being able to see outside. ||Our room is very quiet with no traffic noise and we couldn’t even hear people around us or from upstairs like some hotels. Only 1 elevator but it is quite quick so no long waits. ||The laundry room is handy with 3 washers and 3 dryers and it is so easy to use….no adjustment of the type of wash or dry you want as it is all set by the hotel. Just drop in 400 yen for the washer and close the lid, voila! Detergent all automatically dispensed. Dryer is same …put in 100 yen for 30 min and close the door and bam. Warning…you will need at least 200 yen (60 mins) for a small load of clothes to be dried and if you have heavy sweats and sweaters or jackets, you will need at least 300 yen for 1.5 hours for it to completely dry. We like how the laundry room is open 24/7!||The hotel can arrange luggage forwarding which is very helpful so we do not need to carry our baggage from hotel to shinkansen station. The cost is also very affordable. ||My only criticism is that at this price point for a family room, i expected to be able to enjoy watching Tv at night from bed and be able to see outside but cannot. Also, washer and dryer in the room instead of on being on 1st floor and having to pay, and the compact size of the family room for 4 at this price point is quite high. Of course they have larger rooms but the price jump between the family room and a fairly larger room is quite significant. For these reasons, I had to deduct one star.||We hope to return to this particular property if their prices are attractive and competitive for next year. Huge thank you goes out to all the amazing staff members who treat their guests...

Read moreOur family of 4 stayed at this hotel, during a four day, stopover in Tokyo, after skiing in Japan. We decided to splurge and book the ninja themed room-which offered more beds than we needed, but a separate bedroom for the children, and two bathrooms which is Quite a luxury in Tokyo. The beds & pillows were really comfortable & although we had a large dining table - it was a bit odd to not have a lounge to relax on.||The hotel was conveniently located a couple of minutes walk from the Ueno-Hirokoji (Ginza Metro line) station - which provides access to Asakusa Station in the north-which is a lovely historic area with a temple, good restaurants and sky tree tower. The other end of the Ginza line includes Shibuya-home to the famous Shibuya Crossing and other good restaurants and shops, etc. the trendy and lux suburb of Ginza is also on this line. ||Also, very close to this hotel is a big department store – Parco and lots of ‘Lawson’ convenience stores to grab snacks etc. ||We dined at: |- Warayakiya izakaya - which is just around the corner from the hotel. It’s a very authentic Japanese restaurant with good ambience, tasty food, friendly staff and traditional food (more suited to adults). We recommend the seared bonito (there speciality!) and the whiskey yuzu highball cocktail.|-Pork cutlet Yamabe Okachimachi - which is a tiny authentic Japanese restaurant specialising in pork Tonkatsu. There are only 14 seats, so we recommend getting there early, although they seem to turnover pretty quickly. We literally sat at a counter overlooking the staff preparing meals, but it is tasty food and very reasonably priced. Note it’s cash only the dish we ordered was ¥1,250 each. ||Thank you to the front desk staff who were always helpful and very responsive via email or in person...
