This is a Jiro-style Ramen with big hearty portions. My son and I both ordered the small size and it was still huge. My son had the regular ramen, I got the dipping noodles. Both tasted pretty much the same. And we were both very happy.
This is is a real ramen place, packed with locals eating quickly and filling their bellies. The staff was super friendly and the place was energetic, but also quiet. It was a very hot day and we were super grateful for the cold water tap--covered in condensation--in front of our seats. I must have filled my stainless steel tumbler five or six times.
The ramen is hearty and filling. Big thick tender noodles. A starchy broth with heavy garlic. Loaded with bean sprouts and cabbage. Those delicious giant fatty braised pork slices: YUM! This style of ramen doesn't come with the delicately cooked egg (with a runny orange jelly yolk), but rather a hardboiled egg that's been marinated. I prefer the other kind, but I see this as a trade off for the Jiro-style garlic broth.
The bottom line is that there are lots of different kinds of ramen in Tokyo, some are delicate and refined, others are big thick and hearty. What's best depends on your mood. And the more time you spend in Japan, the better you get to understand how to pick the right ramen for the moment.
