I visited Buvette Tokyo to look at the chandelier made by Warren Muller, a Philadelphia lighting artist. It did not disappoint. The rest of the decor and atmosphere was that of a French bistro in New York - not kitschy or overdone, but honest to its roots, even down to the subway tile in the bathroom. The service was excellent, with several waiters circling the area and checking in with me. I ordered what some would argue Buvette does best - a green salad and Steak Frites. The large salad was dressed with a salty, sweetish olive oil dressing - very good. The 3/4 inch ribeye was cooked to perfection with a butter and pepper sauce. Frites were freshly made and salted lightly. I recommend to share this dish because it was a bit much for one person. Around me, many were ordering waffles and pastries with a lively crowd seated closely as in New York restaurants. One side of the restaurant offered windows onto a sidewalk and the outdoor seating looked inviting. Highly recommend if you are in Tokyo and would like a break from Japanese foods. The menu offered other French style favorites for which...
Read moreIf you're in the mood for a little European flair in the heart of Tokyo, Buvette is a lovely stop worth checking out. Just a 1-minute walk from Hibiya Station (and 5 minutes from Yūrakuchō), this charming spot sits on the ground floor of the elegant Tokyo Midtown Hibiya complex—right next to the cinema and shopping area.
The café has both indoor and outdoor seating, each offering a warm, Western-inspired atmosphere that feels effortlessly chic. Whether you're sipping inside or people-watching on the terrace, it’s easy to feel transported somewhere far from the bustle of central Tokyo.
We tried their famous chocolate mousse, and it absolutely lived up to the hype—rich, indulgent, and perfectly airy. The drinks were pretty standard, but the dessert stole the show for us.
While a little on the pricey side, visiting Buvette at least once for the ambiance alone feels like a worthwhile splurge. They also serve savory dishes, and the nighttime outdoor seating definitely deserves a return visit under the...
Read moreI rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the worst service experiences I’ve had in Japan. I was seated at an outdoor table outside around 12:30 PM today. A female staff member, who looked slightly older, was extremely careless and unprofessional.
First, she was visibly impatient while taking my order—chatting with someone else while preparing my coffee, and nearly spilling it in the process.
Second, I ordered a cappuccino but was given an Americano instead. Only after I pointed it out did they replace it with the correct drink.
Third, I actually saw her roll her eyes at a customer behind their back—completely unacceptable and disgusting behavior for someone in hospitality.
Lastly, when I got the bill, I noticed an extra 350 yen charge for bread I never ordered or received. I genuinely suspect this server added it herself, which is extremely disgusting. And they don’t even have any apologize after checking that was...
