Commissary Nihonbashi — Restaurant in Tokyo

For a slice of pizza!! It’s the closest to an American pizza that I’ve found so far. Thin crust NY style pizza. Nicely baked. Crunchy crust and yummy. They do not use a cheap cheese. Does not amount to needing to dab cheese grease off the pizza. If not for the large amount of women guests, lack of ambient noise like police sirens, traffic, or loud voices, it almost feels like I’m in NY city getting a slice at a neighborhood pizza shop! Next was the beer and salad shop? Brewery with salads… that sounds better. I had the IPA. Personally I’m tired of the draft beer they have all over the place in this city and the hoppy sour IPA was refreshing to my parched pallet. It went down too easy! It’s not an actual pint o ale, but it did not disappoint. The brewery should really try to stay away from all the experimental brews, but seeing that 95% of the dining guests are female, I guess they need the fruity beer options. The food was delicious. However, one staff member at the taco shop kept touching the outside of his mask with his gloved hands that he then directly touched ingredients with. Other staff at the beer counter and taco counter were either not wearing masks, or had them pulled below their noses.

I was also asked if I was vaccinated, which is a first. I have lived in Japan for years and speak Japanese, I am not even a tourist. My Japanese companions were not asked this question. I am vaccinated but I felt I was singled out because I am not Japanese.

Wait times were horrible. The pizza counter staff left my friend waiting for at least 10 minutes without even a greeting while he checked ovens and prepared another order.

Cons: The staff is rude, unwelcoming and unprofessional. It is one of the worst service I ever had. Water is not free, and drinks on the menu are expensive for lunch time. It just shows poor care for the customers. Customers are not allowed to bring outside drink (even water)! Customers are asked to clean the tables (which I agree is fair) but tables are dirty most of the time when coming in. This place follows a fast food model which is OK but uses that as an excuse to provide less services and increase margins at the expense or customer.

Pros: The food is good (but it does not justify the price nor the poor service.)
