CUBANO CUBANO — Restaurant in Tokyo

Two-story building is tucked away in a nondescript alley in Nihonbashi. The first floor houses the kitchen and a kiosk-style ordering window, with a small stairway leading up to a 7-seat dine-in section. Upstairs, there's free Wi-Fi, electric ports, and a well-kept washroom. The staff are welcoming, quick, and efficient.

I ordered the regular-sized cubano and the Kayabacho midnight (medianoche) for a total of JPY 1540. The shop's specialty is reportedly using lard and garlic instead of vegetable oils to toast the sandwiches, aiming for proper Cuban-style bread.

The Cubano is generously stuffed with pork shoulder, a few slices of ham, cheese, and some sweet pickles. The bread is lightly toasted on the outside while remaining fluffy on the inside. The Kayabacho midnight is filled with chicken and jalapenos (and it is spicy!) with cheese, also generously stuffed.

Overall, these are definitely one of the better cubano shops in Tokyo and well...

Solid sandwich place with a simple menu, can't go wrong with either the chicken/kayabacho or pork/cubano. My wife preferred the chicken which had a nice spicy and tangy kick to it, while I preferred the pork which was very savory without being too heavy. The fries while simple were excellent as well. Prices are on the high side. You can order takeaway and walk around or eat in but please note there are only 7 seats at the top so quite tight. Staff is super friendly and food is great quality. Location is a bit random, very quiet area and in an alley way. If they were a good truck, they'd be a hit wherever they go....
