Raspberry Gâteau Chocolat 🍓🍫🍰 @dimlightespresso
Located 2 mins walk from Yoyogi or Minami-Shinjuku stations, Dim Light Espresso is a local cafe with a super chilled vibe. 😎
It has 3 small tables for 2, counter seats for up to 4 ppl, and a long bar counter with high chairs which seats 8 ppl. 🪑
The staff are warm, friendly and relaxed (maybe too relaxed? see below...) and are happy to recommend specific drinks to pair with your food. 👨🏻🍳
Craving dessert I ordered the raspberry gateau chocolat & chose a simple black coffee to go with it. ☕️
Taking a seat while waiting for my order, I noticed that there were stains from the coffee cup of the previous customer which hadn't been wiped clean. I appreciate that the staff might be busy but pickier people than me might kick up a big fuss... 😅
The top of the cake was crispy while moist and firm inside. Coming with homemade raspberry whipped topping, it was a nice combination of rich chocolate and tart acidity of the raspberry. 😋
Apparently, this gâteau chocolat is gluten free which is made mainly with eggs, chocolate and very little butter. 🤩
The coffee was a blend from Guatemalan beans, producing a clean fresh bitterness which paired well with the sweetness of the cake. 🥰
I will be back to visit this charming cafe, but would hope that they can improve the cleaniness a little bit. 🧐

The staff on that morning were very friendly and spoke fluent English. We were so happy to order a “Magic” espresso coffee available on their menu, like we have back at home in Melbourne Australia. We also ordered a ham sando which was yummy.
Loved the cozy atmosphere on a sunny day and the coffee was yum and creamy. Wasn’t sure about the taste of the blend but i still highly recommend trying it if you’re in the area and if you’ve never had a magic before it’s basically a strong flat white but with the same amount...

The menu, while small, is perfectly curated with everything you’d want from a coffee shop—lattes, flat whites, coffee, sandwiches, and sweet breads. I tried the espresso, and it was perfect for my taste: rich, slightly fatty, and not overly acidic. Just delicious!
What really stood out to me was the kid-friendly corner. It’s such a thoughtful touch and something you don’t often see in coffee shops in Japan. It made our visit even...
