Stumbled upon this little place near the Asakusa Tsukuba station. Seeing many Mexican items listed on the menu outside, I decided to try it. Very intimate and cozy, with a few tables and a couple of seats at the bar. I was offered a much appreciated English menu. Wanting a lighter meal, I ordered the jalapeno frito and one al pastor taco. I noticed they had cachaca on the bar menu and opted for a caipirinha. All were delicious. The jalapeno frito were two large jalapenos filled with queso blanco, lightly battered and fried, served with a smoky sauce (Cholula is also available). Essentially jalapeno poppers, but the best version you'll ever have. (Hence the first one being demolished before I remembered to take a photo.) The al pastor taco was authentic, served on the usual hand sized corn tortilla with a garnish of cabbage and fresh lime. The serving of pork had pineapple and was so generous, I had to eat half the meat with a fork to make it possible to pick up the tortilla. Service was very friendly and the chef offered interesting local Asakusa history. If the opportunity arises, I would happily...
Read moreI was really looking forward to trying this place out since I had been craving Mexican food. However, the receptionist was unhelpful and refused to seat us. When I asked about the wait time, she simply said "no." After seeing a couple leave five minutes later, we asked if we could sit inside, but she again said no because of a reservation for that table. She then offered us the option to sit outside, which was right next to the smoking area and had no fan, making the atmosphere unpleasant and uncomfortable. The "reservation" never showed up, and 10 minutes after we were seated, she seated two other couples who had just walked in, not even giving us the chance to move inside. I was also very disappointed with the four-cheese quesadilla, as one of the cheeses was blue cheese, which completely overpowered the flavor. When I asked if I could change my plate, I was told I could only order another dish, with no refund or compensation for the original plate. My friend had the al pastor taco and thought it was good overall but lacked flavor...
Read moreWe went on a Saturday to have early dinner. We were lucky to be seated because it’s quite a small place. Nice ambience. Nice music. I just thought it was weird, foreign staff took our drink orders then left right away without saying a word, and then served the drinks but didn’t ask for our food order. Other staff not sure if Japanese had to be the one to take our order. She forgot one item because she didn’t read back what she heard / wrote. Some of the dishes tasted good. I was quite disappointed with my soft shell crab. The bread / taco was burnt so it had a very bitter taste when it mixed with the pineapple and the rest of the vegetables. The garlic shrimp was too salty and the vegetable that went with it had a strong bitter taste. At least putting a lot of hot sauce balanced it out. I was excited for the carnitas burrito but it took 40 minutes for it to be served. Guess it was...
