The Story Begins In 1962
The first generation started this journey as a Wagyu merchant. A craftsman who faced cattle, discerned the quality of meat, and honed his skills. Since then, the family business expanded to meat wholesale, butcher shops, and the food industry, I was raised alongside meat as the fifth generation. Wagyu was never a “special occasion treat” for me. I have known its taste since I was a child and it was always close to me. However, in my 30s, when I visited America, that feeling was greatly shaken. The “WAGYU” I encountered there was completely different from the Wagyu I knew. Cattle from Australia and America were circulated as “Wagyu,” and many people smiled as they ate, saying, “Is this Wagyu?” Seeing that scene brought me both surprise and frustration.
My Mission: Delivering True Wagyu To The World
The “Wagyu” spreading worldwide is not the real thing. Therefore, as the fifth generation, I decided to deliver the “real Wagyu” to the world once again. With that determination, I decided to open the first store in the heart of Japan, Tokyo. There are many ways to enjoy Wagyu. In Japan, there is yakiniku, sukiyaki, shabu-shabu, and many other ways. However, I chose “steak” and “burger,” which are not originally Japanese. Because these are dishes familiar worldwide, I thought people could feel the difference from “Japanese WAGYU” most directly. Of course, this is not about which is better or worse. But when you compare the steak and burger you usually eat with those made from Wagyu eaten in Japan, if you can truly feel, “It’s so different,” “Japanese WAGYU is amazing,” that impression is the experience I want to deliver to the world.
What ‘Real Wagyu’ Truly Means
And to avoid misunderstandings, let me talk a little about the “real Wagyu” we select. I visit livestock farms all over Japan and purchase only Wagyu that I truly accept by the whole head. My idea of “real Wagyu” is not the industrially fattened Wagyu with excessive fat that was once popular in Japan. Rather, it is Wagyu raised healthily with meat that has truly delicious red meat— Wagyu with umami and tenderness in the meat itself, not just in the fat—this is what I consider “real.” Now, among Japanese gourmets, this type of Wagyu is attracting the most attention. Therefore, I want you to experience this highly valued “real taste” of Japan at our store. From the perspective of safety, to ensure that Muslim customers can also enjoy with peace of mind, I personally select Wagyu processed at the few halal-certified slaughterhouses in Japan, and only procure those I am confident in.
Real Wagyu, For Everyone
This style embodies the desire to deliver a Wagyu experience that anyone can enjoy comfortably, regardless of nationality, religion, age, or gender. That is why we create a restaurant without alcohol. For those who abstain from alcohol for religious reasons, and for families with small children, we want it to be a place where anyone can feel safe to enter. However, our store is not just for a specific group of people. This place was born to deliver the charm of real Wagyu to everyone in the world. It is good to savor each slice carefully, but sometimes, enjoy it lavishly and to your heart’s content. We want to make real Wagyu available to people all over the world. That is the wish of “Godaime Wagyu Tokyo.”

Japanese "Wagyu" as a term has been used allot in recent times to describe quality Japanese beef, both in Japan and abroad; sometimes not accurately and often misleading by many restaurants. If you are looking for a truly authentic Japanese Wagyu beef eating experience, then you've found the right place. This place was founded by a true Wagyu expert, and there is an authentic story behind it. I ordered the cheeseburger (7000 yen, for the 2 patties) and it may have been the best hamburger meat I've ever had, and the steak entrees are also true Wagyu, prepared by the chef/owner himself. If you order the set menu, it comes with free refills of soft drinks, truffle fries, and a small mochi ice cream for dessert. They do not serve alcohol here, as the owner believes the alcohol will take away from the Wagyu taste. This place is in the basement level of a non-descript office building on the outskirts of Ginza. Prices are on the high side, but you get the quality that other places only pretend to have. Also, there is no "take out" option, so if you can't finish your meal, then kiss your food goodbye.

For the price, the food isn't really worth it. I had the burger and it was prepared and cooked well, but the beef was a bit of a let down. From all the talk about Japan's famous beef, at the price point given, I would expect to be blown away by the flavour. It was instead mildly tasty, and gone too soon - the portion sizes are rather small. Service was generally good, but with a few strange moments. We asked for serviettes and got plenty. When we asked for a spoon, we were handed a dirty one. One of the waiters asked us how we found out about the place (Google), but then started prying into our travel plans, asking us where we were from, where we'd been or were planning to go, etc. I saw them soliciting other customers for good Google reviews. It was all very strange. Well, I wasn't solicited, so I can tell you what I really think. Could not recommend due to the lacklustre beef and strange service. If this is the standard for Japanese beef, I would advise most people to just try something else and skip it, because it really wasn't worth the money.

I ordered the set meal, so the cheese burger and the steak rice bowl which came to almost £100 worth of yen. The burger came with a handful of steak chips. There is also no WiFi or service down here and it made me think this particular restaurant caters to groups. It may not be the best solo dining experience. After sitting and waiting for my food for 10 minutes a group of 7 walked in and I was asked to move. At this point after my food was given it begun to quiet down. Potential customers would come in and see the menu but leave. There was plenty of space so I am unsure why it seemed as though they wanted me to leave. I was informed they would give me some free ice cream. They gave me a toothpick to eat it with and a moment later another worker handed me the card reader with the price. He thanked me and stood next to my table with head bowed. On my way out I noticed people waiting even though there were seats available.

Service started out to be excellent where they had 2 ladies holding a sign outside the building to come try this restaurant and lead us downstairs to basement level but this place is 100% a big SCAM!!! They offer a free side of fries or rice for a good review and this is why they have 4.9 stars. The restaurant is located on basement level full of cooking smoke that leaves a greasy residue on our hair after leaving. They have wifi listed on the front page of their menu but the wifi is so horrible that the connection cannot even sustain their cashier system and wanted us to go upstairs to pay. Our waiter does not understand what medium rare means for burgers. The burger patty was like a child size and over cooked when we did tell them medium rare and took out translator and they also had another english speaking staff confirm medium rare. Our order took probably 45minutes to get to us and we only ordered one wagyu burger listed at around 1580yen. It was not good at all. I question if it’s even wagyu and why did it take so long when there were barely any other customers. Probably because it was frozen and not wagyu at all! The food is way over priced. Mcdonald’s taste better! Many travelers trust japan and trust google reviews but Japan actually have many scams like this. They also tried to charge us over 3000yen for our order. That is double of what we actually owe and when we brought it up to them, they pretend they are confused and want to waste even more of our time. If you want to spend your time getting scammed eating a burger worse than mcdonald’s but paying high end fine dinning prices and leave smelling like grease with greasy hair then please, visit this restaurant. Otherwise, consider yourself warned.

Sadly, we were not even the only people they were trying to scam. We overheard another traveler talking to them about how much they were trying to over charge him as well. This place is not to be trusted. All the other 5 star reviews here are probably fake and/or bought. Like how can one even run a restaurant with a payment system that does not even work and this is 100% not an accident where they tried to charge us double. When it was time to pay the bill, I saw them scribble something before handing me the bill like it was a freshly made up price not even knowing what we ordered. Glad we ordered only one thing.

This has been one of our worst experiences in Japan, leaving a bitter impression and really dulling the allure the country once...

If you have sensory issues or asthma DO NOT come here. The lights flicker and the entire restaurant is thick with smoke. Makes it very difficult to breathe and made me feel unwell. I have been to many yakiniku restaurants and others that serve wagyu and they do not have this issue with ventilation.

The prices are extremely steep for what you get. The food is ok but definitely not worth the price. Go to Carl’s jr. in Akihabara for a good burger lol. The sauce in the burger is overwhelming and you can’t taste anything else.

They will tell you in a big spiel that “Google maps is wrong” and they are actually famous for their steaks and not burgers. Sure, but the price is absolutely absurd. Even the cheapest burger is 4000+ yen.

The lady who served us was nice but I was immediately suspect when they came telling a whole story about having “real rare” wagyu and giving us an 8 page “Our story” menu to read too (You can read the same thing on their website if you are curious). The 8 pages were the same thing just in loads of different languages.

Also we were watched through our whole meal. Made leaving some food really awkward.

Other random things to note:

Card only. Make of that what you will. Lemon water which was free but if you don’t like lemon water prepare for that. Took ages to get the bill despite basically being watched the entire meal. They make you wait so you write a review. -Free dessert (tiny, but free). NO RAMEN!!!! I have no idea why that’s in the name on Google.

Overall, if you aren’t fussed about price and want a burger hit close-by I guess it’s ok. Also if you are looking for Halal food. But there’s definitely better Halal restaurants in Japan. Otherwise just feels like a tourist trap. (Nobody local was eating here either. Almost like they know 🤔).

Total price...

Burgers are pretty good, but not mind blowing and not worth the price in my opinion. I've had nicer burgers for about half the price in countries with a higher cost of living.

The service was nice and friendly, with staff introducing the restaurant and menu quite well.

However, the biggest downside was how pushy the staff were about reviews etc. As soon as we arrived we were being asked how we came to know of the restaurant. Staff explained that it was a newer location that not many people know about, and they're hoping to spread the word. This was pretty strange for a place with about 1,300 reviews and photos from 2 years ago.

This pushiness and focus on reviews continued throughout our visit. They wanted to know exactly what we searched to find the place on google maps, what other services we use to locate restaurants, whether we had been to their other venue. This wasn't asked all at once, but over the course of about 4 separate interactions. At the end of the meal they brought out an A4 size laminated card requesting that we provide a review. When we advised that we would do this later, we received more pressure to do it right then and there on the spot. As we were paying, the staff then tried to convince us to go to their other location for dinner the very same day...

I really didn't feel like a valued guest here, the staff's main focus was clearly on generating further business, rather than focussing on the current guests. I just wanted to relax and eat a burger, not be treated like the restaurants marketing intern.

It was particularly strange for Japan, this is the kind of behaviour I'd expect to come across in a restaurant in South East Asia that's on the verge...
