The decision to book at the Dormy Inn Ginza Hot Springs was swayed by a positive comment that I read from a previous review that remarked on the quality of Dormy Inn staff. Our experience could not have been more opposite. We stayed for four nights over the 2024/2025 new year, and I was appalled at the complete absence of customer service. We had unexpectedly been joined by our adult daughter and asked if she could stay in our room or if we could book a room that could accommodate three. When we indicated that we would like to check the room, front desk staff physically blocked our entry to the elevator, in which were other guests; it was intimidating. I have never experienced such rudeness and inhospitality and we were made to feel untrustworthy. When we were finally permitted to inspect the room, we had to be accompanied by two staff; incredible. I regret that we had prepaid for the four night, because I would have preferred to go to any other hotel in Tokyo than stay at that Dormy Inn. Our daughter did find another hotel rather than book a separate room there. There had been no advice from the front desk about the hotel facilities. We were surprised to learn from a fellow guest about the availability of the lounge on the second floor and the evening ramen. In the lounge another guest told us of the hot springs in the basement. This was information that should have been brought to our attention at check-in.There are many hotels in Tokyo, look elsewhere if you value hospitable, friendly, courteous front desk staff. You will not find any of these qualities at the Dormy Inn Premium Ginza Natural Hot Springs Hotel. It is inhospitable, unfriendly, discourteous and most definitely...
Read moreI have been a loyal customer of the Dormyinn chain at all time.
We checked in at around 5pm. However, we were offered a room at the lower floor that the view outside was basically someone’s office.
We expressed wish to change to another room and we said we could pay for an upgrade. We even said we could accept a room that was facing a wall. They said all the rooms were fully booked though at that time, not all the rooms have checked in. They said they would assign us randomly if we did not make requests in the booking and we were only being unfortunate.
At first they said I needed to stay at this room for two consecutive nights, they only offered us to another room for the second night after we expressed disappointment.
Later I found that I actually wrote down my request of a high floor room in my booking. I informed them but this time they said the requests were not guaranteed.
If they were providing this kind of room to others, I think they should categorise this kind of room with restricted view separately on their booking sites and charge it at a lower price. In that case the visitors could choose freely whether they would sacrifice the view with a more budgeted price rather than being allocated to this kind of room but paying the same room rate as others.
It also seems funny for me to see them replying the email without proper manner as a...
Read moreWhat's special is the gender-segregated natural black water onsen at the basement, which you can avail of any time except around noon when they close for several hours. Well worth it if you want to do an onsen vacation without going out of your hotel. There is also a very hot sauna. Bedroom is very comfortable with all necessary amenities, and not too small for Japanese standards. Late-night free ramen is very basic but a welcome snack after an intense onsen session. Soft drinks available for free from the tap. Free laundry machines with detergent plus dryers -- cannot ask for more. Staff try to be helpful but some have close to zero English. Many guests complain about the location, which they say is outside the main Ginza thoroughfare and dead at night. However, I find the location perfect because it is quiet and only 15 minutes' walk to the busy Ginza thoroughfare. Besides, there are multiple convenience stores in the vicinity, namely Lawson, 7-11 and Family Mart, and some seriously good restaurants round...
