I discovered gyumon back in 2019 before the covid pandemic. It was still a very local restaurant. Most of the menu was in japanese and menu was half halal and half regular meat.. I only eat halal meat. Gyumon was my favorite place to eat meat in Tokyo and I have brought many friends of mine to this restaurant. They used to serve beef, lamb, chicken. Back in the days I would have put a solid 5 star to Gyumon.
I ate there on the 13th of april 2025 with four friends of mine. We did not received wet towel at the beginning to wash our hands, the menu was drastically reduced. Menu is fully in english. No more lamb. Only three differents pieces of beef at high price and chicken. No more vegetables to put on the bbq, no more chanja gohan, no more non alcohol beer. All the meat is halal meat. When asked for water, the server just poored water in the same glass we had coca cola. Servers were a lot less welcoming than previous japanese waiters.
Cost has gone up and quantities seems smaller than ever. I don't think serving only A5 wagyu is ideal. Lesser grade halal beef at lower cost would make the job. It would help if servers were more welcoming and would better understand english or japanese if the shop still wants to serve local people.
What used to be a local restaurant has now turned to a complete tourist restaurants. The customer base has changed. I am slightly sad about losing a restaurant that I like but business is business.
I will not go again to this restaurant but I wish it a successful...
Read moreIts difficult to find authentic halal food in Tokyo. There is only a few restaurant in Tokyo are certified as halal and Gyumon is one of them. Since I travelled with a muslim colleague, we try to have fun locating this restaurant which is around 10 minutes walk from Shibuya train station. It was a good experience for her to try the halal yakiniku in Japan and Gyumon pricing is within reasonable price range. What interesting is the halal certification is from Malaysia. I recommend those who like to have dinner at this restaurant, do make reservation by contacting them. The staff able to speak in English. The night we were there, the restaurant were full and have to wait for almost 1 hour in a cold night. Fortunately, the restaurant is nearby a huge 7-Eleven which have many facilities including rest room and eating place to hang out by trying some dessert. The BBQ set comes with 3 types of meat. The best were the beef rib loin. The meat were tender and good. The only complaint were the present of tough tendon in the meat which makes some of it quite chewy. I also prefer the beef to be cooked by the staff as they know which level the meat...
Read moreA small place but worth d visit. Its not easy to find halal food in Japan since you gota travel from one place to another, which is rather far. But this place is within 5-10mins walk from d station.
It really feels and look like an old setting and there were only about 3 diff choices on the menu. 2 different beef rice choice anf 1 bbq set for u to grill. We ordered 2 different choices of beef rice. And we loved both of the choices we made.
We didnt take photos since there are already lots of similar shots and angles of the place.. on top of that, one thing that we needed to update u guys, the place is abit hidden. Unlike normal food shops here in SG, this place is on an alley, jz 1 car width size. It is 5 metres away from the main walkway. So many would miss this place if you are not looking out for the shop. Fyi, if walking from the station, look out for the curry house, since this shop is located at a cross junction, so its visible from many angles. Jz pivot yourself around and you can find Gyumon, its just within 10m radius.
So, go on down and enjoy food!!!! Cheers!!!
