The food presentation looks good, quality is ok, location of the restaurant is excellent.
However, the service was poor, the lady who served us was pretty rude. When I was about to put my shoes on the shoe rack, she shouted at us “no touch!” And when we were asking whether the payment should be done downstairs, she again raised her voice and said “not downstairs, pay here!”
While I was thinking the service was poor probably due to her limited expression in English, the duration we waited for the food to be served was extremely long, we just ordered some ordinary dishes and we waited longer than half an hour to be served. What’s more, she also missed out the last dish and only served it when being reminded (the restaurant was not crowded). Again, another 20 minutes of waiting.
Last, the price of the food was very high. We didn’t choose this restaurant but the local driver recommended us, being the first day in Tokyo and didn’t want to make the driver unhappy, we went in and had our first meal there. 5 ordinary set meals cost us about 15k yen. We could not gauge how expensive this was coz it’s our first day and first meal, after 2 days and a few meals in Tokyo, we realised a standard meal with the same type of food could be settled with 5-7k, we then realised we have over paid pretty much.
We accept it as a lesson we’ve learnt as this is our first time in Tokyo, but we would not recommend this restaurant to you unless you admire...
Read moreWe managed to have lunch at this popular unagi & tempura specialty restaurant near Ueno Park, after waiting about 45 minutes though we came early for lunch time. The manager was not friendly towards international visitors and did not try to explain properly the waiting / queue system. We saw many Japanese customers can directly go to the counter and got the ticket number, while he asked us to wait outside the building for the tickets to be distributed when there were quite long queue outside the building. I can understand why most customers were local Japanese.
Once inside, you can ask for English menu and order what you like with the waiter staff. We ordered the unajyu lunch set and the Izuei lunch set that included half unagi and a few tempura pieces along with rice, miso soup and pickles. We also got a small glass of beer to accompany our lunch. The meals were good and we love the grilled eel and sauces, though the tempura is nothing special. Total meal costs were ¥ 8,140 which is quite expensive, but still reasonable considering quality ingredients and good restaurant ambience. The restaurant is quite big with many dining floors available.
The waiting staff members gave us good customer services, so we only had bad experience with the front manager. You can pay with V/MC payment cards, so it is good for...
Read moreThe eel restaurant delivered a captivating dining experience. The ambiance exuded a traditional charm, with wooden decor and soothing lighting creating a cozy atmosphere. The staff was attentive, offering insights into the menu and explaining the preparation methods for the eel dishes. The extensive selection of eel options was impressive.
The eel dishes were a revelation. Grilled to perfection, the tender eel was glazed with a savory sauce that added a burst of flavor to every bite. The combination of the smoky aroma and the succulent texture created a truly indulgent culinary experience.
