KICHIRI SHINJUKU WEST — Restaurant in Tokyo

We came here for a small, casual company gathering. The riom we were assigned was a bit small. While the long table in the rectangular room seats everyone comfortably, it’s a but hard for someone at the end of the room to exit as there’s not ample space around seats. Nonetheless, after the staff saw how cramped we were, they had offered a bigger room, but everyone had already settled in and had started drinking, so we just declined.

We got the course which I thought was a bit pricey at first, but it came with not only a drink-all-you-can but also the fried potato wedges (only available in butter-soy sauce flavor for the course meal) were unlimited. The carpaccio and chocolate lava w/ ice cream dessert were also particularly amazing.

Though there wasn’t really anything to complain about the food, I did think the course isn’t so well thought out. There were very little greens (no salad) and there were definitely way too many carbs (mashed potatoes, fries, pizza, baked truffle mash).

I had previously been to KICHIRI UMEDA and when eager to satiate a raging hunger I thankfully thought to check if there was a local establishment in Shinjuku.

I was pleased to find there was more than one and settled on Shinjuku West. The menu and the ordering system were familiar and the food was up to the same excellent standards.

The decor was cosy and comfortable with a feet well under the tables for foreigners not used to sitting on a tatami floor.

I adored the Smooth honey cream cheese with raisins and figs, absolutely delightful, I ordered a second. The Guacamole was fabulous and prepared at the table, as was the Raclette Cheese with French fries that was both decadent and scrumptious.

Dessert was excellent, a crisp and smooth Vanilla Custard Brulee or the Queen of Nuts Pistachio Ice Cream were both enjoyed by my wife and I although we loved the Creme Brulee pancakes in Umeda.

We loved the service here ! The location is super close to Shinjuku West Exit but is a bit hidden on the 8th floor. Our servers were so happy, kind and accommodating. The prices were excellent . We love Japanese Italian fusion - but they had other unique dishes that are worth the visit !
