A Hidden Gem in Tokyo: Hachinohe’s Soul Food & Presidential Prestige!
Located inside the elegant Palace Building — where Donald Trump stayed during his previous term as U.S. President — Gyoshokuya Kinki offers an authentic taste of northern Japan with its special Hachinohe Senbei-jiru Set (rice cracker soup set meal), when available.
The highlight is the Senbei-jiru, a comforting regional soup from Aomori made with a savory soy-based broth, vegetables, and unique rice crackers that hold their chewy texture without falling apart. It’s a rare find in Tokyo and feels like a warm hug from Tohoku.
Please note: Senbei-jiru is not always on the menu, but don’t worry — the restaurant serves a variety of delicious seasonal fish dishes that never disappoint. From perfectly prepared sashimi to grilled specialties, seafood lovers will feel right at home.
Whether you’re a foodie exploring local flavors or just curious about where a former U.S. president once stayed, this spot is worth a visit. Come for the fish, stay for the history — and maybe feel a bit...
Read moreI’m Japanese and I was talking to my foreign husband who doesn’t speak in native language. The waiters probably assumed we both are foreigners. At the end of dinner to check out, they gave us just a piece of paper with price instead of a regular receipt. The price didn’t make sense, it was more than what I ate. I paid without asking details but after a while, I went back to the place to ask for the detailed receipt. Surprisingly, the man at the restaurant said they “mixed up bills with next table” and OVER CHRGED ME!!!!! If I didn’t return to them, they just charged over priced, and just pretend nothing had happened!! Or if you are foreigner who doesn’t speak Japanese at all, they could have RIPPED YOU OFF!!! I am Japanese and I want to believe this is just a genuine mistake, and also there is no Japanese who rips off foreigners. But I just warn you it could happen to you in here too. I am very very ashamed of those people who do that to those who loves Japan. Also I was so ashamed my husband had to see that...

Anyway, they did correct the bill at the end. As much as I would like to believed this is just an genuine mistake.... but all the signs telling me it was not. Following is my wife's word as she is an native Japanese, and that's her opinion on this...
