I live in hotels. No hotel is perfect but the Palace Hotel in Tokyo comes quite close. Room 1808. Very spacious room. View of the Palace and Tokyo is excellent. The room could use updating but I can think of no particular item that was wanting of attention. The balcony was huge. My son loved it! Me, too. Afternoon sun!
Room service is outstanding. Delicious food. Served efficiently by unfailingly polite staff. Breakfast was included. Way too much food for me but all good. Requires some discipline to not overeat.
Imperial Bar is outstanding. I drank a bit too much but the drinks are not terribly strong. Easy to drink to contentment rather than excess. I left a 5000 JPY tip. You might feel compelled to do the same, culture of no-tipping not withstanding. Steak sandwich was among the best I have ever eaten. On special Watermelon drink was my choice times five.
Arrival at hotel, front desk, etc. are what you should expect. I saw a new Toyota Century replete with poles on the fender for the flags that diplomats use. The whole place is like that; elegant yet somehow modern. The Toyota Century must be seen to be believed. I was surprised the chauffeur did not complain about my copious attention and nearly sticking my nose to the left-side window.
Location could be better, as in right on the Ginza, but then you would lose the absolute tranquility of the setting. We thought about staying at the Mitsui but the hotel is not close to the Palace in terms of service. Some comparisons: Don't waste your money at the Peninsula, unless a lot has changed. Ritz Carlton and J.W. are great choices but not in the same neighborhood.
OK, the smallest of nits and picks: No maple syrup comes with the waffles. Good for me, the ten year old not so much. My wife pointed out that the menu does list maple syrup as accompaniment to the waffles. The food in the lounge could offer more variety. The beer is cold and on tap. The Prosciutto is excellent. Really, more than adequate but some folks might expect more of a spread.
The staff of the hotel is great and that includes every person I interacted with.

Read moreWhilst it’s only my second evening, this establishment has already provided memories that I may carry forward with joyous attachments.||From the grand entrance, staff and accomodations - one couldn’t be happier to rest a little while in this location.||Had the privilege of staying on the 20th floor with balcony that also availed the executive lounge. This additional access with food, nibbles, expert Tokyo advice and a place to relax from the hustle and bustle was much needed.||Staff bring attentive to the point if you asked for some info geographically, you’d receive a follow up email that was not asked for confirming additional details for further perusal. Truly adds to the memorable moments Tokyo already affords its visitors.||With another night planned, I look forward to delving further into The Palaces hospitality whilst also venturing out with a plan put together by the lovely staff in the executive lounge.||This evening is wrapping up in the bath tub with salts after an evening snack consisting of a generous serving of burger and fries accompanied by a traditional ever so rich iced chocolate.||Extremely accomodating.. two points in addition to above was the airline misplaced my bags (actually someone left the airport with them 🤪) with JAL following this up with care and the staff on the executive floor kept in touch with JAL to keep me updated on when they may arrive. Calls and emails to advise arrival of bags, so grateful for the unasked follow ups. And secondly, I needed somewhere to air tonight after the executive lounge closed (at reasonable 9pm) and the front desk staff kindly arranged a suitable seat in the lobby lounge to work the laptop - encouraging additional consumption of foods.||Would highly recommend to any visitor of Tokyo, taxis and Uber are easy to arrange and close enough to what’s needed (15-25 min to most locations and some even closer)…||If you are considering The Palace,...
Read moreThe hotel is a very neat, clean and luxurious. There are many things going for this hotel. It is in a very scenic surrounding. The check in and bell staff were very courteous and practical. The restaurants are good and the breakfast was good though would not say it was excellent. The breakfast staff service was though excellent and sitting out by the water was a pleasure. The location is just above the metro station and is in a quieter part of Tokyo. Also near the Tokyo main station. Generally staff was considerate and attentive and rooms were very nice and comfortable. We had a balcony with a view too. |Having said that the reason I would not stay here again is the concierge staff. Extremely unhelpful and not interested in their job. Sadly I would go even one step further that they misguided us a couple of times. Specially when we asked them to book a particular kind of Japanese restaurant - sent us to an ultra expensive tourist trap- and the restuaruant was useless. Have had Teppanyaki in places ousite Japan. As soon as you get to them they want to get rid of you - do not volunteer any information on their own. Very uncharacterstic for a hotel in the Luxury Collection. Thank heavens we had done our own research for the most part - relying on the conierge would have ensured complete diaster. They only managed to destroy one eveing and only delayed us with incomplete instructions a few times. I am recommending to Amex Platinum to take this hotel out of the Luxury Collection. Good stay spoilt by a bad conceirge - one eveing wasted out of 5 in Tokyo. |I did talk to the manger about this at checkout and he said they are always trying to improve which is good |but|Well not at my expense or...
