Tokyo | The Coffee Shop That Brews Like It's a Competition

If you’re a coffee fan, Lonich is definitely worth your time and money. I was originally interested in their omakase, but didn’t get the chance to make a reservation. I dropped in for a casual takeaway coffee. The barista was a kind and polite young man. Despite the language barrier, he was patient and made good conversation while he prepared my coffee. He took meticulous care in crafting my drink, and I think I saw him give it a little taste before serving it as to make sure the quality was meeting standards. Was very impressed by his technique. When you enter, they give you a menu which shows a variety of beans from all over the world along with brief tasting, origin, and processing notes. I got the Yunnan beans from China, drip style. It’s a bit expensive for 1350 yen especially if you’re Australian like me where we’re blessed to have cheap coffee haha. The flavour was incredible. Lemon forward of course, but you could also taste notes of red grape skin, tea, and black pepper. It definitely reminded me of drinking an elevated pu’er tea, it was strong but not bitter or burnt tasting at all. There was a bit of a lingering sweetness which made it very smooth and easy drinking. It was a memorable experience. All in all, would definitely recommend trying out- don’t sleep on the coffee in Tokyo! Next time, I’m definitely trying out their creative omakase course.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing a curated omakase coffee journey at Lonich Tokyo, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. Opting for the Creative Option B, which includes a four-course coffee experience, I was treated to a series of unique and meticulously crafted creations by the talented baristas Hinaka and Kaito. Each course was distinctive, showcasing the baristas’ passion and expertise. From the first sip to the last, every creation was a delightful surprise, making this an experience not to be missed. The attention to detail and the love poured into each cup were palpable. I genuinely hope the team considers expanding internationally to share this exceptional coffee experience with the world. If you’re a coffee enthusiast or simply looking for a unique culinary adventure, Lonich Tokyo’s omakase coffee experience is a must-try. To secure your experience, bookings are essential and can be easily made online via their website.

If you’re planning to visit this café, think of it less as a coffee shop and more as a Michelin-level tasting counter—with all the exclusivity and none of the guidance.

I walked in to find the barista mid-conversation with another guest. After being asked to wait (while he continued chatting), I finally got the tiny, pricey menu. The atmosphere quietly screamed, “Only true coffee lovers allowed.”

I ordered, asked about seating—turns out the counter is reservation-only, but there was no sign or explanation. I ended up drinking my coffee standing, unsure what was happening, while the barista went right back to his convo.

The coffee? Fine. The experience? Confusing and cold. If you’re curious, book ahead, do your research, and bring a big budget. Otherwise, many better spots nearby with great...
