As a foodie who’s always seeking for intersectionality between cuisines, Mikkeller Kanda not only blew my taste buds, it blew my mind.
The visual simplicity of their cuisine is not to be underestimated. There’s layers of love, flavor, and craft in what they cook. My partner and I ordered their classic burgers, side of potato’s, and salad & all three portions can easily stand alone due to their taste profiles. Now, mix them together as an entree and you instantly have one of the best dinners in the Kanda/Akihabara area.
I couldn’t fathom the exquisite flavors of my meal so I proceeded to order their sliders afterwards, and though I was full, these sliders made my mouth dance in ways it hadn’t in a long time.
What’s interesting about this place is that people who search for fun flavors in food will be very satisfied here, but also folks who like to keep a simple palette will also leave with a smile on their face.
Atmosphere here is… just sexy. Honestly can’t think of any other way to describe it to the general public. Mood lighting makes you feel cozy the moment you walk in, the music is smooth, & the light scents of the kitchen adorned across all three floors helps you feel like you’re hanging out at home on a Friday night ready to relax & enjoy your beer & food.
The beer… I mean, 10/10 lol.
Note: we’re from America, avid beer hall attendees, and love food. We’re from Denver, CO … so yeah 😏
Ps - we came here last night (friday) for dinner… and it ended up being our dinner tonight as well (Saturday)...
Read moreThe good: we came here just for beers, and the quality of beers was similar to Mikkeller bars in Denmark and around the world. There was no pressure to order food (in fact, food selection is poor), so it is great if you are simply looking to grab a drink.
The bad: the bar and additional seating area is located up an extremely steep set of stairs. It is so steep, it is more similar to climbing a ladder. It was even a bit concerning for a sober, able-bodied person, let alone a disabled or slightly drunk person. Even if Japanese laws permit it, I find it outrageous that Mikkeller would think it is ok to design such a dangerous and inaccessible setup. I lived in Denmark for many years, so I am very disappointed with the Mikkeller organization as I know you know better than to allow this. Also, during our visit they had a special event highlighting other brewers. Nice to do, but we were very disappointed that as a result there were virtually no Mikkeller beers on offer. Being able to visit the bar is a rarity for us, so it was a major lost opportunity.
The question: in Danish beer bars, including Mikkeller, having small tastes of the beer is the norm. It is especially valuable considering the fact that craft beers are quite expensive in Japan and you don’t want to play the lottery with getting a good beer or not. We did not request a tasting, but it would be good for Mikkeller to advertise in-bar that it is ok (a typical Japanese person would not...
Read moreCame here as I wanted some crafts and a burger. Have been numerous times in the past to the shibuya location so know they have solids crafts but was little shocked that it was 1850 yen for a L size (not even a pint) beer..... Saw the burger price and thought not bad at 880 yen for a cheese burger and 1440 for a tripple, till it came out. 300 yen additional for a few potatoes and coleslaw. The patty was wafer thin... Was like a burnt beef jerky....burger? Ordered a triple and standard cheese burger and the triple is like a standard burger at any other location and single was a wafer with a slice of cheese on a uncooked bun. When we came at 1230 the first floor was busy so was told to go to 3rd which is super thin and steps stairs to a third floor... Then when there were told can only order on 1st floor...... Overall pretty disappointed with this location. Shame as it's a...
