I rate restaurants in Japan on a +3 to -3 scale for foreigner tolerance. For me Akiyoshi was a minus 3. We arrived at 10, with closing listed at 11 and, I assumed, last order at 10:30. The master said "No, closed". There were plenty of open seats. I explained in my good Japanese that this was my last night in Japan, and I understand about "last order", but he repeated in English, "no closed". And again. So maybe he's been deluged with tourists and that explains his -3 attitude but it was huge disappointment to me. Fortunately, I found a nice place down the street and my wife and I had a quick jolly time with them. (We are both 60 plus. The other patrons LOVED my Japanese fluency.). So...
Read moreThis was my first visit to a Yakitori restaurant. I found the place on google maps, while looking for something to eat. I absolutely loved the whole experience there. The atmosphere, which was very energetic with the servers shouting orders to the chefs, and vice versa when food was ready, and loud greetings of all customers entering. The food, which was flame grilled on a charcoal grill, and served with special sauces accompanying each different ordering, ensured a mouth dripping taste. And finally the bill, which for 2 people ended up a little more than 5000 yen. And we went out happy with our bellies full. 10/10...

Unfortunately for a major of my week long trip to Tokyo I was hit by a bout of food poisoning so I wasn't indulgent as much as I liked.
This place was the closest to my hotel that served Yakitori so I decided to come here on my last night in Tokyo.
To be honestly this place was quite average and wasn't amazed by anything here. The waitress was nice and tried to communicate to us in English...
