Since I had Mazesoba in Seoul a year ago, I have been craving it ever since. When my partner and I were in Ueno in May, I said to her, "we must go get Mazesoba". She was unconvinced by the idea, but was soon convinced that I made a great choice.
You have to operate a machine to order your noodles, and it is a small space - but these places are definitely the best finds for food.
Mazesoba, for those who don't know, is noodles served hot, usually with sauce instead of soup, and you mix the toppings up in the bowl for an explosion of flavours. They did this very well - the pork and the noodles were cooked to perfection - I couldn't have asked for better - and we were both filled up with the generous portion size.
This place truly hit the spot for me, and I would definitely come back again if I were back...

Use the order machine. Insert your money and then select your desired food. A paper will come out and any change. Find an empty seat and give the paper to the chefs. You can self serve your water while you wait. Read the maze soba instructions! You need to mix the bowl well, and then season it with 1-2 pumps of vinegar (don't make it too sour). When you're done, give the bowl back to the chefs and they'll add a spoon of rice to finish that sauce at the bottom of the bowl. I was struggling with my hair while eating the noodles and a worker came up to me with a box of hair ties to help me.
