Shinjuku 新.宿. Cactus — Restaurant in Tokyo

On a recent trip to Tokyo, we were staying in Shinjuku and had grown weary of the typical madness of it, so we wanted to try something more off the beaten path. So glad we did, it was one of the highlights of our trip. The drinks were cheap, the atmosphere is fun and authentic. Kent is a rock n roller though and through. He was so welcoming and kind - he speaks English and even translated for the other two bar patrons so we could all get in on the convo happening. It was such a wonderful respite for us, especially since we don’t speak Japanese, to feel at ease and like we’re just hanging at the neighborhood bar at home. Next time I’m in Tokyo, no matter where I’m staying I will make sure to make time to hang there and you should too!...

Awesome hidden gem in Shinjuku. Second time in Japan and had to pay the owner another visit.

Story was that the first time around, I ran into while look for a place to chill off the hustle and bustle of the busy area around the JR station. Kent-san is a badass and extremely accommodating to weary travelers and the like. If you want to rock out with locals and random foreigners, this is the place to be. It's a small quaint little downstairs spot across the street from 7-11. I suggest you start the night off with a drink called "Sato-san". Maybe even end your night with it too if you...

Cactus is the kind of bar you stumble into and then never stop talking about. Kent and Yoko are absolute characters—hilarious, welcoming, and somehow make you feel like a regular five minutes in.

The rock and metal vibes are chef’s kiss—not too loud, just the right amount of gritty and awesome. Cash only, but honestly, just throw your yen at them and thank yourself later.
