After you eat dinner, sometimes you want something sweet and cold, so finely shaved ice with an assortment of delicious toppings to choose from was ideal, except for the long wait outside. They only let people in when there is a seat available somewhere in their 2 story restaurant. You pay first. The menu is also in English and they give you a buzzer & then you can come fetch your order and bring it back to your table. If you are upstairs, the stairs are steep & you might spill your drink, like I did. It takes about half an hour to eat the mountain of flavored ice. I got the #2 which was the soybean flour mochi adzuki bean sulbing, ie finely shaved ice covered in soybean flour (tasted like peanut powder) with sweet adzuki beans, four small white mochi and almond flakes. It was delicious. There are other less adventurous choices if you want to be safe. Water was provided, but you have to get them yourself in paper cups. The atmosphere was a 3 because it was very loud, very noisy, the tables seemed to be too close to each other and the stairs were so very narrow. The establishment expects you to clean up after yourselves as well- bring their tray etc back to their cafeteria...

I had one of the worst café experiences at Sul Bing in Japan — a country known for its cleanliness and great service, which made this even more shocking.
First, the hygiene was unacceptable. My cup came with visible stains and residue still stuck to it. Basic cleanliness should never be overlooked, especially when serving food and drinks.
Second, the service was just as bad. When I went to collect my order, the staff were too busy chatting with each other to acknowledge me, even though I was standing right in front of them ready to pick it up. This felt unprofessional and disrespectful.
Third, the table management was poorly handled. I saw two people occupying a table for four, while our group of four was split into two separate two-person tables. It was uncomfortable and showed a lack of organization.
Overall, for a café in Japan, this level of cleanliness, service, and management is unacceptable. I will not be returning, and I hope they take serious...
Read moreWe visited Sul Bing Café in Shin-Okubo and ordered three desserts: a lotus bingsu, a chocolate Oreo bingsu, and a chocolate honey butter toast (as shown in the photos). We also had two Americanos and two mocha café lattes.
The desserts were absolutely delicious! The bingsu was light and fluffy, with the perfect balance of sweetness. The lotus bingsu stood out with its crunchy cookie crumbs and rich caramel drizzle, while the chocolate Oreo bingsu was a chocolate lover’s dream, with generous toppings of Oreos, brownies, and chocolate sauce. The chocolate honey butter toast was indulgent, with its crispy, buttery base layered with chocolate shavings, almonds, and creamy ice cream.
The drinks complemented the desserts well, but the ordering system could use some improvement. Having to place your order before finding a seat felt a bit inconvenient, especially during busy hours.
Overall, if you’re craving indulgent desserts in Shin-Okubo, Sul Bing Café is worth a visit—just be prepared for the...
