3.5 star for Japanese diner and 1 star for foreign non-Japanese diner. Instagram famous but in reality only average food quality with really bad service attitude from the head chef. (Waiters are great and attentive)
Can not speak Japanese, the other foreign diners and I were seated towards the right-hand end of the table. The way we were treated was a bit weird and patronizing like feeding food to baby/people who knows nothing about sushi. Meanwhile you can feel the head chef spent all his time with the Japanese customers, I think the Japanese diners did enjoy the meal. There were many “special items” you need to pay for in addition to the omakase menu, it is optional. Although it can be weird if you are the only one who is not ordering the special dish and waiting for everyone to finish. My hotel notified the restaurant there is one fish I cannot eat but the restaurant did not take note of it. I told the waiter I cannot eat Kohada, instead of serving me a different fish in substitute, the restaurant just ignore it, not serving kohada, and that was it. It is definitely subpar experience for me compared to the other high end Japanese sushi restaurants I have been to.
This might be the only bad experience I had in Japan, such a shame. Lesson learned: don’t trust instagram as the restaurant was kind of instagram famous.
I would recommend you to go if you can speak Japanese.
On the food side: otoro, a common dish for any omakase is an add-on item here and you need to pay. Flavor wise I think the restaurant try to innovate, but end up with too heavy flavor that covered the true taste of fish.
Tabelog has ~4 score, which I assume are primarily local diner so makes sense? It is a shame that it feels like the sushi chef just want to make money rather than treating the job in a more noble fashion.

Read moreFirst time having omakase as a tourist and have to say, what a great experience!
We had made a booking online and received a pleasant reminder about our booking close to the date. It was important to be punctual given that the chef prepares food for everyone at the counter at once.
We had made the error of going to the wrong sushi yuu (which is only 15 mins walk away) and needed to hurry. The person emailing us understood and still allowed us to attend.
On arrival, you have the choice of having drinks with the sushi. We opted for the tea pairing that allows you to sample up to 5 different teas.
The food was amazing. Chef Ozaki truly is the master of his craft and extremely caring for his customers. Chef Ono appeared to be under the tutelage of chef Ozaki, but was also quite experienced in making some dishes. He was fun and energetic person who would make the setting more lively and fun. He was the one who helped my table was very kind and could speak some English as well. He was jolly and extremely friendly, making the experience fun as it was exciting. They served multiple dishes of sushi and explained each cut. The service was quick and waitress could speak English as needed too. The omakase ended with the chef providing some amazing cherries from the region and also happily posed for photos.
A great omakase experience overall with the best chefs and staff all around! However be aware the cost can be high depending on what additonal...
Read moreBoth my wife and I have not experienced much Omakase in our lifetime, hence we wanted to choose a place that could give us that full experience right off the bat (go big and see what the top of the Omakase game is in order to compare to future trials). We chose to attend the 1200h slot, and glad we did so because by the end of the experience we would be quite full! Make sure to block off at least 3 hours from your day for this reservation. It was truly a journey watching Chef Jun Ozaki and his team prepare our dishes. We can tell how popular he is, as all the seats were filled (including the private room). Unfortunately as we were unable to speak Japanese, we did not get a chance to understand each dish, the chefs did their best to translate each dish for us which is very nice of them to do so. We were both very glad to have had this experience near the end of our tour of Japan. To have had a chance to experience the pinnacle of a sushi chef is remarkable.
Overall Kel rating: ★★★★★/5 The good: A unique experience. Definitely give the Omakase experience a try when you are in Japan. The decent: It is pricey (although judging from the reviews, it appears this place is one of the more reasonable priced Omakase for the quality and experience of the chef) The ugly: Limited seating, meaning reservation is absolutely needed in advance! (I was not a fan of Tablecheck process, but thankfully the reservation was...
