I had an absolutely horrible experience getting a perm and a haircut. Luckily, I didn’t have to pay in the end, but that didn’t make up for what happened.

I chose the salon because their website stated they spoke English, and the reviews were good. However, the hairdresser assigned to me didn’t speak English at all. I showed him multiple reference photos and didn’t ask for anything complicated. He assured me he could do exactly what I wanted—no problem.

What I got instead were the weirdest layers I’ve ever seen. It looked as if I had clipped in the wrong size of extensions. To fix the mistake, we had to cut my hair much shorter than I ever wanted. Thankfully, a lovely lady stepped in to salvage the situation because the original hairdresser didn’t seem to understand how to fix his own mistake.

As for the perm—it barely worked. The only result? Two strange bumps at the back of my head. After spending years growing my hair long, I can’t wait for it to grow out and get back to where it was.

I am visiting Japan and was looking for a salon with an English speaking hairstylist and found this salon on a blog. I used my hotel concierge to schedule this appointment. I came here 5/17 with Ms Kamimura. She spoke some English. We did have to use Google translate 😅 a little. But I was able to get my point across. My hair is very difficult to work with. I have very dry, wavy, frizzy and brittle hair. I wanted to get the look of a digital perm(straight on top and curly on the bottom). Most hair stylists I've worked with before did not know what to do with my hair, but Ms Kamimura was patient and listened. She didn't recommend the digital perm as she didn't believe it will work with my hair. Instead she straightened the top and left my ends naturally curly. The results were better than I expected. I waited days later to write the review to see how my perm holds up after washing. I was pretty impressed. Highly recommend. Fine service provided by the staff at Respia. Kamimura-san was attentive during my visit. She listened to what I was asking for and gave me real expectations on what could be achieved. I had a cut, treatment, hair spa and a re-curl perm. My hair is still looking so healthy 2 months after. The perm has settled into a gentle wave which gives some life to my otherwise stubborn straight hair. Kamimura-san offered to re-perm my hair a few days later if the perm didn't hold but i was flying out the day she'd be back from leave.
