If I had just come from America I think I would still like this restaurant but if you've lived here in Japan for a long time it might be really disappointing. Many expats seem to like it, though.
The portions are extremely big and I recommend you bring some of it home in a doggy bag. The prices are really good for lunch. I think it's just like 800 yen for a huge voluminous lunch. A pile of rice some french fries, two big pieces of dark chicken meat, some defrosted frozen watery vegetables. It reminded me of my childhood American school lunch vegetables. The rice was Japanese but maybe really low grade one... I think the only reason they put rice on the plate is because most Japanese need rice to feel full.
The staff seemed busy and some were friendly and some were a bit irritated. Maybe because they are so busy they didn't have enough time to wipe up the really sticky floor so my shoes kept making a sticky sound when I walked after I left the shop.
I think it would be worth it to come here just for an American dessert experience. Many years ago I had the brownie Sunday ala mode here and I still have fond memories of that. The strawberry shake was really huge... Kids would like that kind of stuff.
I should have ordered the tacos or something different. The chicken plate was definitely not something to wow at. My child was equally unimpressed... Unfortunately she also got a chicken plate, different flavor. At least the...
Read moreI recently visited the TGI Fridays in Shibuya, Tokyo, and had a rather disappointing experience. My visit began on a sour note when I noticed a distinct difference in treatment compared to other customers. I entered right behind a white woman and her daughter, who were greeted warmly by a staff member, presumably the manager. They were given the liberty to choose their seating. However, when it was my turn, the same staff member's demeanor changed noticeably. I wasn't greeted with the same warmth and was instructed to walk back and to wait in the front area just for the manager to call me again after 1 second. Despite the restaurant being half empty, I was later led to arguably the worst seat, which felt unnecessarily rude and, frankly, discriminatory.
As for the food, it was a mixed bag. The chicken quesadilla was a delightful surprise, perfectly cooked and flavorful. However, the tacos were a letdown, marred by an awfully tangy sauce that didn't quite hit the mark. It was an odd, unpleasant taste that I hadn't expected. On a positive note, the onion rings were good – crispy and well-seasoned.
Overall, while there were some culinary high points, the overall experience was tarnished by what seemed like unequal and unfair treatment. This behavior, especially in a diverse city like Tokyo, is unacceptable and left a bitter taste in my mouth. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend TGI Fridays in Shibuya based on...
Read more!! There is an unmentioned service charge of 760 yen !!
The food is good, but only go here if you want to spend some money. Shared an appetizer with my partner, we had a main course and a refill drink. Then we had some cheesecake and a milkshake. This place is a bit more expensive than its American counterpart. All the food tastes great and the guacamole we ordered was even prepared at the table.
If it stopped there it would be fine. A bit expensive, but good Western food. However there is an unmentioned service charge of 760 yen we found out when the bill came. It wasn't mentioned at the door or on the menu. An unwelcome surprise. Then again I wouldn't really mind paying a service charge if there was good service. However the staff passed by our table multiple times when our plates were empty or we needed a drink refill. They left the whole area for minutes on end. We weren't the only people being neglected.
So come here if you crave some real Western food and have money to spend, but beware of the service charge and the subpar service that...
