Every time when I went to Japan I always planed to dined at Zauo fishing restaurant. This time I went to Shibuya branch. it was my second time with Zauo, but different branch. Dining experience here is awesome because I like fishing. The fish and shellfish here you can choose how the chef will cook it for you such as deep fried, sashimi, steamed or soup. The quality of seafood here is beyond fresh, because the customer just caught it by themselves and all fish and shellfish are alive. The seafood here is very testy with authentic Japanese chefs. Customers enjoy their meal with exciting dining experience. The restaurant decoration is look like small fishing village. The staffs are really friendly. This time I decided to caught founder fish and lobster and asking chef to do sashimi both fish and lobster, deep fried fish bone, steamed fish and lobster miso soup. Drank really cold Japanese beer with the food that I caught it was really good experience. I highly recommend Zauo fishing restaurant for people who love fishing and eating live seafood only. Ps, customs no need to bring fishing gear and bait. The restaurant provide it to the customer.
Read moreZauo might be one of the most fun and interactive restaurants I’ve ever been to! The seafood here doesn’t get any fresher, as you literally grab a fishing pole and catch the fish yourself from the fish tanks, before it’s prepared fresh according to the style you choose. Each type of fish is assigned a point value, and our table was allocated a set of point cards which we could redeem for our catches. Additionally, the menu was printed like a set of board game instructions, making this a kid-friendly activity! There were two separate tanks of fish, a downstairs tank (where you used a short pole to hook the fish) and an upstairs tank (where you used a long pole with bait). I had much more luck with the lower tank, where I caught a Sea Bream and Spotted Knifejaw Fish, and my dad caught a Horse Mackerel and Conger Eel. The staff were helpful in setting up the fish for us to take pictures, before taking them into the kitchen to prepare! For the larger fish, you can request half to be prepared one way and the other half another way—a great way to try out different styles! My favorite was the Sea Bream, half of which we had as sashimi, and the other half grilled with salt. The head/skeleton were placed on the plate for decoration, and we asked them to cook it for us in miso soup so we could enjoy every last bit.
All the fish were as fresh and tasty as could be, but we also got a number of appetizers and side dishes, which were delicious as well. The Uoshabu Course Menu began with two appetizers: a creamy cold homemade tofu (a highlight!) and pickled root vegetables. The “Chef’s Recommendation” dish was a small ramekin of fried chicken slices served cold in a vinegary sauce (another highlight!). The menu also came with a Shabu Shabu hot pot with lots of mixed vegetables including Napa cabbage, carrots, onions, enoki mushrooms, and greens. After the vegetables were all cooked, the pot was refilled with soup and then used to make a rice and egg porridge. Finally came dessert, a hard yuzu sorbet, which made for a nice refreshing bite to...
Read moreA fantastic place for its novelty. We came here as we had wanted to go fishing for a while, and hadn't found the time to do so. It looked like a lot of fun, and it was. The atmosphere was very enjoyable, and the style of the interior was very fitting for the novelty of fishing for your food. We were given, in our opinion, the best seats in the house. We got to sit at a bar table overlooking the main fishing area and the kitchen, giving us entertainment with our meal.
The restaurant is certainly not a place you go for an intimate date, but if you are wanting a date with a spin of fun, then this place is highly recommended. If you want to go somewhere, where the children can have a lot of fun before their meal, this is definitely the place to be. It had further entertainment through the excitement that gets put into every big catch, as the staff introduces the catcher through a big taiko drum roll, which is also done when there's a birthday cake delivery to a table.
The service was pretty good, the staff were very casual in their approach, but for a restaurant such as this, it's perfectly acceptable. Some staff are very good with their English ability as well, which is great for a tourist area. They were very helpful, and thoughtful as well.
The food was also very nice, with great presentation. The fish was prepared after catching in an incredibly fast and timely manner. This was surprising, as the restaurant was by no means quiet. The dessert was pleasant, but was a bought in one, which really isn't a big problem as I understand the kitchen staff certainly don't have the time to make in house.
I highly recommend this restaurant for its good quality fish, fun atmosphere and speedy service. If you want a date with a twist, definitely check it out, and if you are looking for a fun time with the family,...
