I saw this while searching for a cafe near our hotel. From the outside, it’s very aesthetically pleasing. On entering the staff were very polite, helpful, attentive, and probably the best part of this cafe. The atmosphere was great and the cafe was mostly filled with young women and couples on dates.
We ordered two coffees. One hot and one iced, these were okay. The hot coffee beans were probably grounded too much because it wasn’t filtered well enough, but drinkable. The best thing that we ordered was one of the quiches. This was really nice and flaky and the salad on the side complimented it well.
The onion soup of the day was actually a potage and it was very heavy on the cream, lacked onion flavour, and salt. Also the size of the potage was really big and due to the heaviness of the cream, quite sickly.
I ordered the Jones Burger, this was quite salty. The actual burger meat was really nice, well cooked and juicy. However, the kimichi was quite salty and there was also a salad at the bottom of the burger, which was also quite salty. This created such an imbalance in the flavours of the meat and made everything very salty. To top this off, the burger was paired with tortilla chips so it was essentially more salt and it because difficult to eat. However, we asked for water and tried to eat everything (get our monies worth). The chips were left. The tortilla wrap started off well but I think much like the burger it was also quite salty.
Perhaps, I went on a bad day, but it just seemed like the cafe knows it can survive on its aesthetic and how well known the hotel is. I think more effort should be spent on actually having a better menu with food being paired better and seasoned appropriately. It also just isn’t worth the price.
Again, I do want to extend appreciation to the staff for their friendliness and for being attentive to us. The second star given is simply for them. Otherwise it would have...
Read moreCame here for lunch around 1130. Had to be asked to be seated. Staff are quite young and not really clouded up on service. Atmosphere is nice and fresh with high ceilings creative g a nice environment but all seats are very close so no private conversations without next person hearing. Food was below par for this type of hotel. Ordered the hamburger and the paddy was not great... Don't think it's beef... Maybe a mix of beef and pork and instead of fries they put a few doritos on your plate. It looked good but taste was not there. Overall for 2200 +service and tax it was not good. Pizza was average and the quiche again not good. Hope they can improve - better ingredients quality Would...
Read moreI am looking for a place to take mom to breakfast in two weeks and remembered we visited THE jones Cafe and Bar next door (we will be staying at MIMARU again this trip) so I thought I should write this long overdue review.
We visited last October for breakfast and it looks like the menu is still the same at the moment.
Besides the regular western breakfast you would expect from a hotel, they offer an unexpected dish: pork congee with preserved egg! I have that with a latte and enjoyed it very much after a week of too much Japanese food.
Needless to say, I will take my mom there again in two weeks for breakfast as she enjoys a bowl of congee...
