Uni uni uni and uni. Its all about uni restaurant. Uni lover must must must visit.
Their uni are so fresh! And you get to try assortment of uni thats in season! Counter seating could only accomodate up to 9pax. They have table seating too. But still, we need to queue for 1,5hours on a weekday lunch to be seated. Its their only down side. For tourist like us, time is of the essence. Its such a waste of time to stand and waited in line for 1.5hours looking at the same wall while we could be looking at so many other interesting things. If only they could make a digital queue number system, that would be perfect. Customers could stroll around while waiting. I believe for local Japanese too, time is precious.
Counter seating is way more interesting since you get to see what the chef is preparing. Its an art, how they arrange the uni artistically on the plate. If you are not into uni, they have seafood kaisendon too, but it would be best to seat in next door restaurant where their specialty are seafood kaisendon, since their queue is way shorter. Unitora Nakadori is specialized in uni kaisendon. And i also saw they deliver uni don to next door restaurant. Maybe that could work for us next time to save queueing time, just seat next door and order in their uni since they allow it.
Not sure which type of uni is to your liking, get their sampler bowl of 5 types of uni in a bowl, consisting of 4 different types of bafun jni and 1 murasaki uni for ¥9600.
This time i ordered bafun uni kaisendon, a generous portion of uni thats gonna blow your mind! Previously i ordered their uni sampler don and they are divine! This time i choose all bagun uni. Boy the amount of uni is enormous. Bagun uni basically overflow and fell out of the bamboo plate. I couldnt finish the whole bowl. Too big portion. But they are so fresh, sweet creamy and a bit nutty.
We paid ¥21.500 for 3. Only 1 uni kaisendon, the other 2 are seafood kaisendon and salmon kaisendon. Equally good and super fresh seafood. Depend to you liking, i understand not everybody is into uni. Their prices are fairly reasonable. Never had that much uni in one go before in mylife.

Read moreIt’s clear this restaurant is well-known for their uni bowl, and while some reviewers may say it’s a tourist trap, overhyped or charges a premium, does that matter if you really, really enjoyed it? Knowing friends and family that came, it was an exciting experience to be able to enjoy the same meal they did, and I very much enjoyed the meal!
We arrived around 7:30am on a Tuesday, and while the inside counter was full, my wife and I were the first customers to be placed on the outside counter on the 1st floor. We ordered the uni bowl and one of the tuna bowls, which came out very quickly. While we felt the size of the bowl was a little smaller than expected, the taste was delicious and well worth making the trip to come here. The uni was fresh and did not have any fishy aftertaste, and the tuna was fatty, flavourful and rich. While I wish there was more of everything on top of the portion of rice, I really enjoyed the high quality seafood presented, and I suppose not being completely stuffed gives me room to explore food elsewhere in the market!
Of course, the meal is pricier, about 16,000yen total for the pictured bowls, but again, it’s an experience I wanted going in to this trip, and for me, it was well worth it, no...
Read moreFor the price, this is ridiculous. Tsukiji fish market is really a tourist experience - you’re paying more for the ambience and environment than anything about the actual food, but I was hoping with a higher price tag it would come with better quality food. It’s not - it’s egregious how much of a rip off this place was. The atmosphere is slightly nicer than the street food options outside, and the service is passable (they all speak English if you’re an English only tourist), but the food was the worst part. I’ve never had such bad uni at this price tag, and they mixed in good and bad quality uni (one which was clearly a frozen and defrosted one). The only good food was the miso soup and the otoro - but that’s not that uncommon. The scallop and crab were both clearly frozen/defrosted as you can tell from both texture and taste, and one don set us back ¥20,000, ridiculous for what it was. Like other reviews, I’d advise staying away from Tsukiji if you must, but if you’re trying stuff out, go for a cheaper option and save...
