The monjayaki was tasty although this is my first time having it so not sure if there's better places. Don't see how it can be much better or worse given its a relatively simple dish. The half servings is definitely too small to fill up a male for dinner. It was basically a small bowl of ingredients, although filled to the brim it was mainly vegetables (this is typical for the dish though, like okonomiyaki). I ordered the 5 ingredients, half serving which cost around 950.
Price seems quite typical when compared to surrounding shops. They were upfront about the 380 Otoshi table charge. Other monjayaki/okonomiyaki store nearby also stated 380 Otoshi on their menu.
Was served by friendly Akane who knew some English.
Disclaimer: was asked by the server for a review although she didn't mention any discount in exchange. I asked if I can get a discount for the review and based on the receipt I think the 380 Otoshi table charge was waived. I've tried to remain impartial in...
Read moreWe found this place during the evening of 12/13 because of the high reviews from others on Google maps. However we did not have the same experience.
After the appetizer was made, the server did not shut the iron griddle, leaving it smoking with a burnt smell. The servers saw us struggling to turn down the heat of the griddle but did not care nor come over to help us.
The server helped prepare the Seafood Monjayaki initially. When he left, he motioned that we can begin eating, but the texture was still extremely liquid, making it non-edible. The seafood was also not fresh and left a terrible taste in our mouths.
The second dish was pork belly monjayaki, which had a much better texture that was not like liquid.
Overall, the quality and freshness of the food was below average. Servers did not pay us any attention so the service was not...
Read moreEdit (3/5/2025): Came again and it was amazing! Tried the recommended mentaiko monjayaki with cheese, a seafood okonomiyaki, and the squid. Natsuki was our server this time and our food turned out great! The mentaiko monjayaki and seafood okonomiyaki were some of my favourite dishes so far this time in Japan. Great experience and a must-go if you're passing through Ueno.
Had the special okonomiyaki, it tasted great! Would highly recommend the dish. The seafood, meat, egg, and sauce work very well together. Our server, Akane, was very nice and was fun to talk with. She was in charge of cooking our food at our table, and she was very accommodating of our lack of Japanese skills while talking with us. There is an online menu that is in English,...
