I went for dinner and was seated right away, as there were still open seats. I waited around 15 minutes before receiving the QR code for ordering and the standard hot towel. About 20 minutes in, some local customers arrived and were immediately given the QR code, towel, and a glass of water, which I was never offered. While that might seem minor, the contrast in service left a disappointing aftertaste.
The seating and atmosphere are modest and functional—about what you’d expect at most local restaurants. Nothing particularly special, but comfortable enough.
On the positive side, the unagi was excellent—tender, flavorful, and far beyond what you’d find at a chain or convenience store. It had a melt-in-your-mouth quality that showed real care in preparation.
As for whether I’d recommend it, I’m on the fence. The food quality is clear, but since this was my first visit to a dedicated unagi restaurant, I can’t confidently judge the value compared to others. Coupled with the uneven service, I’m not sure I’d go out of my way to return, though the dish itself...
Read moreDelicious eel. I had never eaten eel before (unless it was in sushi) and it was absolutely as good as I though it would be. I got the Hitsumabushi set, it was ¥2850, which seems a little pricey, but I think it was well spent. I do believe the menu changes seasonally, so it may not be available in the winter. The servers speak a little English and they have an English menu as well as instruction on how to eat the Hitsumabushi. The place is small, only a few 2-4 person tables and a counter. I didn't have to wait but I can imagine having to wait on busier nights. I didn't drink any alcohol but there is a large selection of sake available. Overall a great experience, if you're in the area it's worth a stop. Lots of night life in the area around it too. Only issue was the tricky roads and the fact that Google maps was sending me all...
Read moreAmazing Unagi Don that is to die for. This restaurant specialise in Eel and almost all the dishes are Eel only.
The restaurant is quite small with a few tables and a bar. There's quite a few choices of alcohol. It's a short walk from exit C6 of the Ikebukuro station.
The Eel is freshly grilled by the master and served over fragrant rice which complements the Unagi so well. We had the skewers as well which are different parts of the Eel.
The staff are friendly and service is quick.
Highly...
