There is a lesson to be learned when you travel. One of such is "Never have a meal when someone is hustling outside to bring business in". It applies in Brussels and certainly applies to Yokohama as well.
Due to fatigue and hunger, we ended up choosing this place for dinner as it was conspicuously missing people lining up outside. Once we walked up to 2F, it was clear that a mistake had been made. Some guy was casually sitting by the staircase, smoking with the dining area wide open next to him. Inside wasn't any better.
It looked dingy and old with many things in need of repair, including an ice machine. Soda dispenser looked as if it had seen a better day and needed some cleaning outside.
Despite having a meal menu with English subtitles, it was anything but a painless process. But the real horror unfolded once our food started to arrive. While my meal (mapo tofu) had a semblance of the said meal, my friend's meal might as well have been anything but what he ordered. When we flagged down our server to clarify in case the wrong meal was served, she insisted that it was the right meal and ready to dismiss us as some foolish tourists. After a few moments of going back and forth, presumably her manager emerged from behind, had brief huddle amongst themselves before taking my friend's meal and returned shortly after making "fix" which consists of adding some ground meat topper. So, now it looks more like the picture, but I'm still missing a few side dishes and desserts (they are one the way).
But forget all that as the taste will wash away the bad service. Alas, one bite of our dish confirmed all but instant regret. Usually, bad mapo tofu still comes out middling. But this one had a decent look, but strange texture to tofu itself. It was neither soft, nor springy, nor light. It was something of crumbly, sogginess combined with a dish somehow having hot and cold temperatures within. Spice was bland. Rice was fine, which is about the only thing I managed to finish. None of us managed to finish our meal and were all too eager to pay our bill and escape ASAP.
Lesson learned again and evolved. If you are feeling hungry and in need of a meal, tide over immediate hunger with meat buns sold around here (there are plenty and many good ones) and take your time choosing a restaurant. Also, read reviews ahead of time.
McDonald's in the US would've been a better meal than what I've been served here, and the first bad meal I had in...
Read moreWe went there as a group of 3 and this restaurant was our worst experience of Chinese food. The restaurant is in a good position in the main street of China Town, the staff was hustling (while talking with each other). We were too hungry to find other options so we got in this, whose the Beijing duck was a scam and everything was overpriced. The half Beijing duck was written to have 8 pieces and it was 4800yen. We accepted that price but we could not even hold our surprise when the food came out. 8 those pieces even could not be called duck, there were 8 pieces of duck's skin, and under the skin was the shrimp-chip (was used to pretend as the duck's meat lol). Moreover, the duck's skin was oily and has no taste; the shrimp-chip was tasted like tyre and we could not even bite it. So to be honest, we paid 4800 yen for nothing except for the duck's skin which was also bad, this dish was famous and they used this to scam the first-time tourists. We ordered the 'cold dish' chicken as the picture, there was only the salty taste. The only ok dish is the vermicelli. We understood the staff were not Japanese native speakers and their Japanese were not perfect, but some of them were not friendly and respectful (maybe bcs we are students?). When we called the staff, she said "なに", and I think as a service worker in Japan, they at least should have said "何ですか" to me. Some staff were nice when we asked how to eat the beijing duck tho, but we believed we deserved a better service when we paid that big amount of money. To conclude, we were scammed of the beijing skin duck. Other dishes were mid or bad. Chinese restaurant anywhere in Japan could be better and cheaper than this. Those places are only finding money from tourists that only come once. Please do research carefully and decide thoughtfully. Each of us paid 5000yen for this, while we could just have paid half for a better meal...
Read moreHad an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. First and foremost, upon entering, I was practically coerced inside, and they assured me that everything on the menu was available. However, it turned out that many items were not actually available. Furthermore, the food depicted in the menu pictures was completely different from what was served. Like others have claimed, almost all the food was served cold, and the portions were so small that one would feel the need to order more. However, here comes the most interesting part: they would deny your request, stating that there is a limit of only six dishes per person, despite telling you at the entrance that for 2980 yen, you could order anything you wanted. Moreover, the food itself was not tasty at all. I urge you to read other reviews as well. The dishes were so unappetizing, as if they were leftovers from the previous day. Additionally, all the food was served cold. To make matters worse, the tableware was unwashed, with dirty glasses, and the chopsticks provided were similar to those given at convenience stores. Lastly, when it was time to pay, they only accepted cash, which seemed very dubious. Overall, I would not recommend this establishment due to the coerced entrance, false menu representation, cold and unappetizing food, unwashed tableware, and limited...
