If you are craving an authentic Somali dining experience in the heart of Nairobi, look no further than Al-Yusra Restaurant. From the moment you step in, the warm, inviting atmosphere envelops you, and the tantalizing aroma of freshly prepared dishes welcomes you in.

Ambiance & Service The restaurant boasts a relaxed, welcoming environment with beautifully themed decor that highlights Somali culture. The staff is friendly, attentive, and committed to ensuring you have a pleasant dining experience. They offer recommendations with a smile and make sure your needs are met promptly.

Food Quality & Flavor The highlight of Al-Yusra is undoubtedly the food. The menu is rich with flavorful dishes like the succulent beef biryani, tender camel meat, and the iconic Somali-style rice paired with perfectly grilled meats. Their signature banana accompaniment adds a unique twist to each meal, bringing out the distinct flavors of Somali cuisine. The portions are generous, making each meal not just delicious but satisfying.

For those who enjoy a touch of spice, the chapati and marinated fish options are a must-try. If you love tea, the sweet and aromatic Somali tea is the perfect way to end your meal.

Overall Experience Al-Yusra Restaurant delivers a memorable dining experience where you can savor authentic flavors at reasonable prices. Whether you are with family, friends, or dining solo, this gem in Nairobi provides a rich taste of Somali hospitality and cuisine. It's a place you'll want to return to...

A spacious restaurant set next to the Jamia Mosque in Nairobi's Central Business District. Great food variety. From Swahili, Somali to Ethiopian cuisine. They have a segregated section for families to cater for those sensitivities even though the main area is open for both genders. Parking around the building is chaotic and I advice you walk there from another part of town. For Friday lunch, the area is practically inaccessible by car so just walk there. Very quick service and pleasant staff. In view of how popular it is, the wash rooms should be increased to handle the traffic. The meat dishes here...

Went to the CBD branch with a friend, sat for like 20 minutes, no service, forced to signal the lady waitress who had ignored us the whole time. After asking why she was not serving us, she said that the area we were seated was for couples! Looked around and noted that there were three guys seated on the next table, two guys and a lady on the other etc. she told us the we should relocate to be served. Sasa why won’t you just put a huge notice in areas that are for couple? Why didn’t she tell tell us right from the beginning so that we won’t waste time? She was also...

The people working here were really nice and welcoming. We ordered the afghan chicken pilau and chicken biryani - both were excellent. The chicken from the afghan pilau was moist and delicious and had a really nice savoury flavor. The rice was also moist and savoury but not spicy. The biryani was incredible - chicken was good and the rice was packed with spices and herbs. They were both very different (despite them both being rice and chicken) and I liked them equally a lot! The hot ginger drink was also great. It's nice to sit on the balcony and watch the city below.

What I love the best about this place is the location overlooking the MacMillan Library and the streets below with the ICEA building in the distance. The balcony is the best place to sit. The staff are friendly and responsive. Your food arrives in less than a couple of minutes. It's a fast paced restaurant and can get busy. The pilau isn't the best I have had but it wasn't too bad. The portions however, still leave you hungry afterward. It's popular with Somalis as you would imagine from it's name. They could improve their responsiveness to customer orders though.

One of the cleanest and most beautiful Arabic restaurants in central Nairobi – and definitely the only one where I ended up drinking camel milk like a local sheikh! The food? Delicious. The options? Wild – goat, camel, you name it (just get there early if you want to try them). Our waitress was so sweet, helpful, and patient – honestly, coming back just to be served by her again! Food arrived in under 10 minutes, and prices didn’t give me a heart attack – so that’s a win. Highly recommended – and don’t skip the camel milk , it’s a whole vibe.
