Siam Thai Kitchen — Restaurant in Nairobi

I put a five star review because there is no doubt that this is my favorite thai food in Nairobi. Authentic, delicious and just simply great.

BUT! And this is a big but. The staff keeps on messing up the orders on delivery. Let me tell you about the most recent event as I can’t remember the details of the incident before.

Two days ago I ordered one green curry, mild, and one red curry, spicy. With two orange juices. I ordered the green curry mild for my mother that has several abdominal issues as well as diabetes. The order came without the drinks. The order came with a bicycle delivery (this will be important soon) The green curry was spicy as hell and the red curry had no spice at all. So they had mixed up the order.

I had previously called the restaurant to make sure that green curry should be mild and the red curry spicy. I had also specified it in the order on Uber Eats.

I called the restaurant again. Their solution? Send the bicycle to pick up the drinks and bring them to us. And they replaced the red curry. Which really didn’t help us as what we needed was a mild green curry. But at this point a further explanation seemed futile.

We wanted to have the drinks with the food of course and because it was a bicycle delivery, this took time, which caused my mother to almost have a diabetic attack while waiting for them, which was terrifying, so we went ahead and switched meals. In the grand scheme of things switching a meal is not a big deal but why should we, the paying customer, accommodate for the staff of the restaurant not being able to 1. Take in information given over a phone call and 2. Read a clear instruction given on the order?

Had chicken Pad Thai which was great. Place looked a bit desolate to be honest with most people ordering from apps as far as I could tell from the orders being picked up.

One of the big tables had one of its legs missing and nearly fell on us as we tried to sit down. We hadn’t noticed it was broken. The guy behind the counter noticed me try to prop the table back up but didn’t say anything.

The food is made well and of good quality. However, unfortunately it feels like all the dishes almost taste the same or have the same base flavour. This should not happen in Thai cuisine. However, I was pleasantly surprised they followed my request to not make the food too spicy. The nuts being used are also definitely adding to the experience.
