So I saw this place had a 5.0 star average with over 230 reviews and figured, let’s go try what is apparently the ā€œbest Teriyaki place everā€, according to Google. I figured it at least be decent with that kind of a rating but I’m not going to lie, I was coming in skeptical it would be anything special. Forget about it. I ordered Spicy teriyaki chicken and an order of potstickers. The potstickers were fried PERFECTLY and the sweet sauce with it was great. The chicken was excellent quality and cooked well (no weird gristle like you can sometimes get with cheap chicken). The rice was sticky but not over cooked and the salad was the freshest I’ve ever gotten at a teriyaki joint. I would have liked a side of dressing for the salad but it was actually nice to have one the side for the spicy chicken. The dining room was clean as could be and the young woman working the counter was so nice and helpful. She greater EVERY customer who walked through the door (include a first timer like me) like they were family. As someone who travels A LOT for work I’ve been on a Teriyaki kick lately but now Im thinking of switching to something else unless Im in this area as Koko has set the Teriyaki bar so high. If you like teriyaki or are just looking for a friendly, reasonably priced place with great food for lunch or dinner you owe it to yourself to check these folks out. (BTW the potstickers came with 5 not the 3 in my picture…I couldn’t stay out of them before taking the picture :P)

Since returning to office post-pandemic, Koko Teriyaki has become a one of my favorite safe spots to get food. Work is stressful and it’s so nice to get solid old school-style teriyaki, wrapped up in a classic ā€œTHANK YOUā€ bag with a disposable utensil of choice. As they say, ā€œsometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name.ā€ I’m not even a regular, but the lady always somehow knows my name, and even found me in my car one time when I scattered away to enjoy the silence of my car while I waited for my order. When you’re here, you’re in good company. A room full of working class strangers who share an unspoken camaraderie and kindness. Opening the door for others, greeting people on the way in or out…that kind of thing. It’s a very special place despite being quietly tucked away in a seemingly random shopping center. And as for the food? It’s beyond solid and high quality. The beef and chicken are great, the pork is unreal and doesn’t even need sauce at all (almost reminds me of pork belly with how flavorful it is). Even if the food wasn’t great, I’d still come here just to feel the warm fuzzies :) Long live Koko Teriyaki!

There are a few suburban strip mall chicken places around the world that can change the trajectory of one's life, and I'm happy to say Koko Teriyaki is one of those places. From the moment we walked in an energetic woman behind the counter greeted us and gave us some recommendations on what to order. She also gave us free drinks since it was our first time. The chicken was good. Not the best chicken I've had in Portland but probably top 5. The sauces were very good too. But the overall vibe of the place felt like Cheers or something. Lots of regulars. Everyone saying hi. It harkened back to a life we don't see much anymore in this world of social media and mass shootings. The experience here got my wife to agree to look at houses in Cedar Mill because there "is culture here" after all. We'll see what happens but it's amazing what a $10 lunch can do to change someone's opinion about a place.

I was greeted by a personable Koko Teriyaki's employee named Arthur. Arthur told me all about the origins of the in-house healthy Teriyaki sauce. Prior to my order, I was hesitant about coming in due to the 110+ heat warning. However, I'm glad I did. Before placing my order, I perused the menu looking for the perfect combination. Arthur explained to me, in concise detail, the healthy aspects of KoKo Teriyakis's food. When I was finally ready to order, one of the lovely KoKo Teriyakis's employee frothe kitchen showed me a finished to-go order of Menu item: Combination #1. This order includes chicken 🐄cooked and marinaded in the house Teriyaki sauce. The Combination #1 also includes white rice šŸš with a side salad consistent of green cabbage slice's 🄬, with some broccoli 🄦and a šŸ„• carrot slice. Another detail I noticed was after filling up my drink. I noticed, that the CO2 levels were consistent so that the proper mixture of CO2 and water 🌊 is dispensed at once. Note: The soda pop I received from KoKo Teriyakis's was still highly carbonated when I had arrived home šŸ  later that day. Once I arrived home, despite the sweatlering heat, ( I had A/C as well) I started to eat my dish, Combination #1. But before I could accurately document and photograph the entire meal. I ate all three of KoKo Teriyakis's pot stickers. I ate them all quickly but quite enjoy fully. After, I quickly realized that the pot sticker's sauce was absolutely bursting with citrus šŸ‹šŸŠ flavors. The pot sticker's sauce smelled amazing too. Once I'd consumed the pot stickers, I ate all the broccoli 🄦 and the carrot šŸ„• slice. The veggies were incredibly fresh and healthy. Also, I always use at least two full Teriyakis sauce's when I eat my chicken teriyaki šŸ”. The flavor and consistency of the in-house teriyaki sauce was always important to me as a customer. It's thee, make or break šŸ’” moment, for the dish. In a short but absolutely sweet way. My review of KoKo Teriyakis's house teriyaki sauce was a smashing home run! I have truly believed it was actually better than what Arthur had described @ KoKo Teriyakis earlier that sweltering. Overall, I say "It's never to hot for KoKo Teriyaki's food". Brief location description: Koko's Teriyaki restaurant is currently located inside the Sunset Mall. Located off the corner of Cornell and Murray across from the Sunset Highschool's baseball ⚾ & šŸ„Ž softball fields. Sunset Highschool (Home of the Apollos, šŸ˜Ž mascot in my opinion).

Review Ratings: Koko Teriyaki's Restaurant Food Quality: 🐄🐄🐄🐄🐄 -5 out of 5 stars Restaurant Cleanliness: 🧹🧹🧹🧹🧹 -5 out of 5 stars Employee Customer service: 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 5 out of 5 *COVID-19 safety precautions were quite acceptable, tables were adequately spaced and cleaned, I spilled a few drops of soda 🄤 putting on my soda 🄤 lid. **As this is the end of my Google maps unsponsored review. I leave y'all with a nostoglic question I remember from 90's food print newspaper articles. I just replaced the old restaurant name with the new one. Q:ā“Did Koko Teriyaki's food live up to the hype? As Stuart Scott would say...
