Overall, the interior design of the restaurant is fun and pleasant, but the food didn’t quite live up to it.
The waiter first came out with 4 slices of bread(quite thinly aswell) and a spread. The bread was nice and flavorful but the spread did not have much flavor, small hint of truffle, although it came out nice but it wasn't really much.
Two appetizers were ordered. (If you’ve been to Italy or know some Italian, you’ll know that antipasti and appetizers are essentially the same—so it’s a bit unclear why the menu had them listed in separate sections.) We chose the pickled artichoke with almond purée and truffle oil, and the whipped ricotta with truffle honey.
They came out in bowls and looked very nice and tasted quite good, what was surprising is that nothing else came with them -no crackers, no bread, just the bowls with the spreads. Almost felt like eating yoghurt straight from the container, strange way to serve these antipasti. When we asked if more bread will be coming and the waiter answered that the bread is already included, which is the small plate with 4 slices of bread that we received earlier.
The mains : Tagliatelle with bolognese and Penne aglio o olio with seafood mix, shrimp, squid, pike perch, tuna.
The Bolognese came out looking very nice and had good flavor, the pasta was cooked perfectly not too soft and not too firm. The tomatoes sauce was fresh and flavorful. There's not much to complain about the dish maybe the presentation could have been better, but overall pretty good.
The seafood pasta was more of a disappointment. There was a lot of liquid on the plate—mostly pasta water—and the sauce lacked flavor. There may have been a hint of citrus on one side, but overall it was just bland.
The pasta was also overcooked and too soft. Looks like there were some chili and herbs spices but those flavor was not noticeable at all, unfortunately. There was not much of a seafood mix, a lot of tuna and pike perch, maybe two shrimps and no squids at all. The fish was overcooked and the texture was quite strange, giving it more squishy and rubbery texture, and no flavor. Some pieces of fish still had the skin on, but it hadn’t been seared or pan-fried; it tasted more like it had been boiled, flavorless, and lacking basic seasoning like salt or pepper. Overall not many flavors from this dish(maybe because of the amount of pasta water). There was no noticeable taste of garlic or herbs, just bland fish and water.
The dessert: Chocolate Mousse. The mousse did not have the most beautiful presentation but the flavour did deliver. But the texture and the consistency were not completely well done. It was too thick and dense. Imagine you are eating a chocolate buttercream that are used to decorate cakes, birthday cakes. It wouldn't consider to be a mousse, since it was not light and airy. Whenever someone is scooping the cup started to follow because of dense and thick it was.
The meal experience. During the meal one of the waiters was opening two bottles of wines next to our table. The wine wasn't for us. It feel a bit unprofessional to open a bottles or, start cleaning cutlery next to a guests table while they are eating, these things should be handle on the bar or an empty table were there are no guest sitting and eating.
Once the meal was finished and the plates were ready to be cleared, they sat on the table for around 15 to 20 minutes. This wasn’t a busy time, yet all the waiters were talking with each other instead of attending to their guests.
The host did a great job at the beginning—taking coats and seating guests. But by the end, after the bill was paid, there was no sign of him returning coats or saying goodbye. Guests had to pick up their own jackets and simply walk out, with no indication that the host cared whether they had a pleasant experience. Instead, he was busy standing and talking with colleagues.
In conclusion, here is definitely room for improvement their dishes, service. Not everything was bad, but the food, presentation, and service could have...
Read moreYesterday, my friends and I visited Allora with high expectations, but unfortunately, the reality was far from what we had hoped for. The price-to-quality ratio was disappointing.
We ordered beef tartare, which was decent, along with tagliatelle with truffles and risotto with baby squids. However, the scallops crudo was a big letdown—we simply didn’t like it. When the waiter asked for feedback, we honestly mentioned that we didn’t enjoy the scallops, as we had barely touched the portion. His response was that the taste was affected by red wine. We know that red wine doesn’t pair well with seafood, but we had ordered it specifically for the tartare and never even tried drinking it with the scallops. His reply was unprofessional—if a guest expresses dissatisfaction, it’s not appropriate to blame them. Otherwise, why ask for feedback at all?
The service throughout our visit was disappointing. When we ordered wine, the waiter brought a different, more expensive bottle than what we had originally chosen. Upon pointing it out, he responded with, “The price is the only thing that interests you in wine.” This was a rude and unprofessional comment—after all, we are the ones paying.
Additionally, one of our friends briefly left the table and had placed her lip balm on it. A waitress passing by picked it up and said, “Don’t forget your lips.” This felt intrusive and unnecessary, as we had no intention of leaving at that moment. It was strange and unprofessional for staff to touch a guest’s belongings without reason.
To top it off, we noticed the staff talking about us, which made us feel uncomfortable. Given the amount we spent on lunch, we expected a much better level of service. Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed everything else.
I would not recommend Allora, as there are many better options in Riga that offer both great food and professional service for the same or even a better price. The service was the main factor that ruined...
Read moreI’m Italian (ok, not by birth) and I cook a lot. I always want to try new places to feel the vibe and see what is offered. I look for quality, authenticity and soul in every meal. So this time in Riga I thought why not to try smth. new. Service: I was not given any suggestions, explanations about food. I know it probably better, but it was needed to hear something. None of the waiters was able to pronounce Italian names of the dishes. I’m not talking about the accent. There are gnocchi (njokki), not gnoči, or paccheri, not pačeri - that was funny. I was driving and asked for a water (I was alone), no one has offered me a small bottle and I was landed with 750 ml to drink in less than an hour alone. Seriously, there are smaller portions for single guests. In general, service was poor. Bare knowledge about Italian cuisine, names, explanations. Food topic is separate. I don’t eat much for lunch, I did take more than I would normally do. Salad with roasted tomatoes, burrata and avocado. Please, do not order this one. Italian cuisine is not about combinations, but primary about the quality and taste of products. Sorry, the burrata is not good and burrata has to be good. So is avocado, not good. Both taste like supermarket, not authentic. So is the salsa tasting artificial. Not savory enough and plain for the cheese. Paccheri con sugo di tartufo… paccheri swimming in sauce with roughly grated parmigiano. Sugo I can accept. Parmigiano in grated chunks - not really. I say yes to focaccia and butter. I see the potential in this place if everyone from waitress to the cook live what they do, like Italians love their food, adore it and make sure others like it as well. Now it...
