Upon arrival without a prior reservation, the staff informed us that no tables were available that evening, they didn’t suggest alternatives until we persisted. Yes, it’s great that you have a popular place but smirking at us whilst announcing your unavailability was a little off putting.
When we returned two days later, the welcome once again seemed lacking, with the staff member needing to confirm my reservation against a phone number, seemingly suspicious that we were who we said we were. One of our starters, featuring wasabi mayonnaise and avocado, was unbalanced, with the wasabi overpowering the dish. However, the bread and accompanying caramel butter plus an additional tuna starter were fantastic. The main courses, particularly the pasta dishes, were of high quality, and the waiter was attentive, inquiring about our satisfaction during the meal.
Service inconsistencies were frequent, such as uncleared glasses between courses. A miscommunication occurred when ordering a dessert wine; a dry sherry was served when I’d indicated a preference for sweet, leading to a dismissive response from the staff member. Additionally, the same staff member was constantly on his phone, in view of everyone, it just looked pretty unprofessional and made him seem unapproachable.
The tiramisu dessert was delicious, concluding the meal on a positive note. While the cuisine at Snatch demonstrates quality, the service experience was inconsistent, sadly detracting from the overall dining experience.
When settling the bill, the experience became awkward as the staff member directly asked if we wanted to leave a tip, creating discomfort. While I did tip, it felt pressured, and the lack of an option to select the amount, instead having to confirm verbally was unexpected and unusual for a restaurant of this calibre. A good experience but the shortfalls were clumsy and avoidable — this place could be so...
Read moreA couple of months ago, I experienced some of the best Italian food so far, in terms of both quality and pricing, during my trip to Riga.
Believe me, Snatch had been on my bucket list for quite some time. It was a Friday, and I hadn’t made a reservation in advance. Fortunately, I was seated and soon found myself immersed in the finest culinary experience.
Being a first-timer, it’s always tricky to choose specific dishes when everything looks so tempting. Luckily, my curiosity won, and I ended up ordering the beef carpaccio with pecorino romano and black truffle. The finely chopped beef, grated cheese, and the delicate aroma of black truffle made me feel like I was on cloud nine. I paired it with a nice red wine, and the first thought that came to mind was how blessed I was to be sitting there, experiencing it all. Honestly, the portion was quite large, even for a foodie like me, but I managed to finish it off with some cheesecake. I won’t lie, there was a moment of hesitation when I was about to order tiramisu—the go-to in any Italian restaurant—but then the waiter recommended the cheesecake, saying it’s something you won’t find anywhere else in Riga. I doubt it can even be found in Tallinn! Delicate, rich, creamy, and oh-so-cheesy, it was heaven for the taste buds. It feels like an eternity since I tasted it, but I won’t forget it anytime soon.
The service? Absolutely top-notch—warm, welcoming, and attentive. I feel truly blessed to have visited this place, and I definitely recommend you...
