I've been in Riga basically a day. It's been great so far. Come here if you like architecture. Saw Beer Museum on my travels. Having a few and a) great beer selection b) I'm not supposed to drink because I have gout. I will manage, my problem. I'm on vacation! c) They are playing the soundtrack of my life (and 80's, 90's.. perfection) with videos on a large and small screen. Latvians seem either very reserved or underwhelmed in general, or with Americans. No judgement, I just try to be polite, tip appropriately, and stay in my lane. The staff starts filling an open cup, I ask her if it was takeaway, and she smiles and nods but goes ahead, I think to myself that she would give me a lid. Then she puts the filled plastic cup with beer in front of me. I refused to accept. She wasn't going to give me a lid or in a can or a wrapping paper. I had to carry an open cup to my home 5km away! At the risk of getting embarrassed, I accepted 1 lt of can (oh now she could bring out that water can!) Thankfully, I stopped the bar man from filling in...
