Bao Bun Latvia — Restaurant in Riga

Coming in hyped and prepped to come here, with the place’s option looking good.

Food wise: Bao bun was ok, genuinely nothing special- and considering all the price is not appropriate, especially portion wise.

The poke bowl was really saddening… I’ve had store bought old poke that might’ve had a bit more flavour. I’m not sure what it could’ve been but the tofu tasted like honey essentially?? The chicken in the poke was OUTRAGEOUSLY thin?!! Same issues with the rest of the bowl as tofu.

The main issue was the service, after the initial order I’m sorry to say but nothing disrespect was thrown to the people in my group. I’m sure there was some kind of issue with the order possibly or miscommunication: but the way the staff was treating us was not acceptable. We were as nice as could be and the staff was not only condescending but quite inappropriate as well as calling one person in my group “sweetheart”. Not ok.

My recent visit to the Bao restaurant in the food market was great.

We opted for the duck baos and fried sweet potatoes with parmesan, and they were delicious ! The duck baos were tender, succulent, and perfectly seasoned. The combination of the savory duck with the fluffy bao bun was simply great.

The price of the food was reasonable considering the quality and the vibrant atmosphere of the food market. It's not always easy to find delicious food at an affordable price, but this place nailed it. The portion sizes were okay, and I left feeling fully satisfied.

The service was prompt, and our food arrived quickly, allowing us to enjoy our meal without any unnecessary delays.

What a disappointment 😥. Beautiful serving but a terrible taste. Spent 20 euros for two dishes. The chicken bowl was average..too much sauce and minimal amount of chicken. As for the soup, it was such a fail for me in terms of taste. It tasted as if all the ingredients were extra, so in other words I could not taste a unified broth (umami) taste with ingredients. The after taste was bitter (better to give lime bites separately) and I felt as if it was a stale food. Could not finish at all. Totally do not recommend unless they improve the taste.
