Very arrogant staff! RACIST? Or ignorant?

Recommend by our hotel, we came to this restaurant to have dinner. Despite of having many EMPTY tables, we were turned away. A man working there initially tried to find a table, but after seeing my other friends, he hesitated a bit and changed his mind. He asked me if we had a reservation. I said no, and he said it is full. He didn’t even suggest us to wait (which we were willing) nor gave us other suggestions.

Based on his weird behaviour, I dared to ask him if he is being racist, and his answer was “What are you talking about? It is Valentine’s Day!” Well, there were many empty tables in different zones, too. So, it wasn’t convincing.

Having visited many different restaurants all over the world, I know whether I am welcomed by restaurants as a customer or not. In this restaurant, I didn’t even feel a sense of “welcoming” regardless of its restaurant being fully booked. Bringing this racial issue is highly sensitive, but this is exactly what we felt based on his attitude.

If he were willing to accommodate us, he would either suggest us to wait or check the availability of other times or dates.

Incredibly unique frog themed restaurant serving up fresh food, relatively quickly at very reasonable prices with small nooks for couples, large seating areas and gorgeous surrounds. FOOD: Selection of salads, poke bowls, burgers, pastas, steaks and other various vegetarian, vegan and meat options. They also have a few gluten free options and are happy to accommodate special requests where possible. I enjoyed a salad, there are a number of mains and there are gluten free poke bowls too. They also do a unique espresso and cola drink which is really rather good. STAFF: Absolutely lovely. The best we've had in Latvia so far: super friendly, accommodating, efficient and attentive to detail. SEATING: There is a significant amount of indoor and outdoor seating options. With groups of 12+ easily being able to sit. This is a very family friendly place! Staff ensure kids meals get served up quickly. There is a dedicated kids space for them to hide, hang out, colour in at their own table and chairs and also play with and assortment of frog themed toys. Good, but not outstanding. The location is somewhat unfortunate - it's convenient for me, personally, but this is the bad part of the city center. No sights, lotsa hotels, so there's not much to look at except for narrow streets overflowing with cars, and tons of elderly tourists ambling around in unruly mobs. I would avoid the terrace and stick to the basement, it's kinda cozy in there.

Cozy, but noisy. That might have been my bad luck, but the place seems to attract loud crowds. That really ruined the experience for me.

And apart from the noise, the experience wouldn't have been half bad. I can rarely resist the steak, and this particular joint does steak competently, if without any particular flourish. I cannot comment on most of the rest of the menu, but the choice is fairly broad and what few things I tried sat well with me.

Expect to spend around 20 to 40 EUR, depending on your order. Serving times are reasonably short for a place with cuisine this decent, you would likely need to wait for quarter an hour to half an hour...
