Tails has been phenomenal. Firstly, it was relatively easy to find a seat on a Monday evening, but nevertheless we reserved. The interior has a nice ambiance, being not too dark and not too luminous. Furniture is well put together, boosting neutral tones. The restaurant forte is definitely fish, which is of high quality and very fresh. To me, one of the best starters I’ve ever had in my life was the scallops carpaccio with coffee oil. Really delicate and totally rich in flavour. The tuna tataki with balsamic reduction and the octopus BBQ were also outstanding. I’ve eaten octopus many times, but making it interesting is hard. The paprika marinade was very distinct in flavor and yet was letting the octopus stand out. The side dish was also very delicious. We both ordered a desert with apples and white chocolate - I wasn’t convinced on the pairing and ended up with a bitter note in my mouth. The cocktail I took -the apple smash also had a slightly high smoky thyme taste (which is not for everyone), but wasn’t too strong. The staff was so kind (as they forgot to bring us 2 deserts), that they gifted us the other desert they had on the menu - the sticky toffee, and two digestives. A great experience, amazing value for money and total care. It makes sense they’ve been mentioned in the Michelin Guide and I wish them...
Read moreTails the Michelin guide restaurant! I recently celebrated my husband's birthday here, and the experience was truly memorable. From the moment we walked in, we were met with incredible hospitality. The food, seating, and overall care were exceptional. We loved the wall decor with the dry aged fish. The food and the presentation was fantastic, especially the octopus, the salmon and the starters.
To top it all off, the staff surprised my husband with a birthday cake and a candle—a thoughtful touch that made the evening even more special.
A couple of small suggestions for improvement:
It would have been wonderful to have table napkins for our laps, as this is a detail often found in fine-dining restaurants. There was one but for the cutlery's.
Also, I had read that the restaurant's decor theme was inspired by the Baltic Sea coast, and each design means something, but when I asked a waiter about it, he said this wasn't the case. Providing guests with these kinds of small details, particularly those from other countries, could enhance their overall experience. Ps. Its in their webpage.
Despite these minor points, the staff was fantastic, and our whole evening was amazing. I highly recommend Tails for a special occasion and a pleasure for...

The dinner at Tails was undoubtedly my best meal in Riga during my visit to the city. Located near the beautiful Art Noveau neighbourhood of Riga, Tails is a wonderful restaurant specialising in fish preparations. I found out about the restaurant via the Michelin guide and made a reservation.
There was an a-la-carte menu as well as a tasting menu. I went with the tasting menu which comprised 10-11 courses. One of the very interesting starting courses was the bread which was kind of made in front of me. There were some very interesting and delightful courses like the beaver meat, the eel and the sturgeon fish, all of which I loved. The other main course of the short ribs was also delicious. The “chaga” dessert course was also wonderfully unique.
Service was fantastic and the restaurant staff did an excellent job in explaining the different courses. For drinks there was a cocktail and mocktail menu. I ordered a couple of cocktails and they were quite nice.
All in all, I would 200% recommend visiting this restaurant if you’re in Riga. Tails is doing a wonderful job and I thoroughly enjoyed my dining...
