Locale Restaurant — Restaurant in Riga

My husband wanted Georgian kitchen, but I wanted Mediterranean cuisine. And we came to a common decision - to book a table in a restaurant Locale.

We come to restaurant Locale(on the first floor, Alaverdi on the second floor) two weeks before our wedding, we chose a table in the winter garden (the only beautiful location in the restaurant), the hostess bring us visit cards of both restaurants. After few days we chose snacks and welcome drinks, we call to restaurant and told them about our wishes. Everything was looking nice, BUT, comes day X.

Before restaurant we had nice photosession in the museum and we was planning to make half an hour photosession in the restaurants winter garden with full table of food and drinks, and friends of course. But when we come in the Locale we was shocked - our table was busy, no food, no welcome drinks. We ask to call manager, and to us come small (maximum 20y old) girl, she start to offer us to seat on the second floor (which was absolutely empty and closed at these day), but it wasn’t that we are looking for, our plan was violated. The “manager” was offering to us as well other tables on the fist floor, but it was looking ugly, a lot of flies were flying around the proposed tables, she was offered to us to wait the reserved table, because “people was ordered deserts and they will finish soon”. We paid the photographer for full time and let him go, because there was no mood at all, and we didn't want to be photographed with a strained smile.

The best conclusion we come to - to leave this ugly place and call to Whitehouse restaurant , the manager was very polite and he had organised for us drinks and appetizers in the short time, the staff of Whitehouse was very hospitable and nice, definitely it was the best decision to come in this place.

We were 4 persons for a late dinner (9pm) without table booking. Cannot tell is mostly Italian restaurant, it kinda Georgian - Italian fusion. Ravioli I had were very good for local selection, let's say. We have found very nice pizza selection in the menu and rare almost unique for our location. Haven't tried pizza this time, but next time I will pay a visit specially for this occasion, as restaurant has Pizzaiolo from Naples, and it cannot be bad by default already, and must be the best pizza here! I liked atmosphere inside so much, tables placed in the way when in the full restaurant conditions, you have a feeling you have enough of space for your company. I liked that restaurant have super cosy nice bar, with the barmen constantly in the process of doing their unique cocktails, I believe is friendly place for a long cocktail at the bar for two. However I think the staff has to be bit trained for better service provision. Our waiter couldn't made a wine suggestion. Plates were removed immediately after meal is finished or almost finished, even with the last bite on the plate, it was strange, and gives the feeling that we have to go already, no time for desserts. And when the client say just quietly - 'Thank you!', when an empty wine glass is taken from the table, you don't reply - 'you are...

Visited this restaurant with my family one evening whilst visiting the beautiful city of Riga and what can say... i have NEVER in my life been treated so badly by waiting staff !!! From the moment we walked in we were ignored. When we were shown to our table the waiter we got was a young arrogant, aggressive and very dismissive. He clearly had an issue with us for whatever reason to the point we could no longer sit in the restraunt, i spoke to the manager and told him our concerns and how uncomfortable the waiter had made us feel, we paid our bill in full (even when offered a discount which wasnt what we wanted we expected to be treated with a reasonable amount of respect which we were showing to the staff) as we left my partner was getting her coat and the waiter gave more abuse to her when she was separated from the group.. if you want to spend your money and be abused this is the place to be.
