For an F&B establishment that's been around for so many years, I'm surprised they managed to get literally everything wrong.
Food - The rice was served cold during normal dinner hours. The chicken was bruised, with large portions of the meat turning black. The fish soup was bland, colour looked unappetizing and nothing like the picture, and the portion size was embarrassing. You could probably go to any random kopitiam nearby and get tastier fish soup, with a more generous portion, at half the price.
Drinks - This was the first time I’ve ever been served soft drinks in a tin at a restaurant, and worse still, it was lukewarm with no ice or cup provided.
Service - The staff seemed either severely underpaid, overworked, untrained, or possibly all of the above. Everyone was sluggish, visibly annoyed, and unmotivated. Almost half of the tables were left with dirty dishes and not cleaned. Despite only a few occupied tables, the food took ages to arrive. The waitress was rude, showed displeasure at simple requests, and even seemed frustrated when I was paying at the cashier.
Cleanliness - The kitchen was disorganized and filthy. I even saw a bug on the wall, thankfully far enough that I couldn’t confirm if it was a cockroach. I don’t understand where the management got the confidence to wall up their kitchen with glass, I’d be ashamed to show customers.
It’s sad to see a childhood fast food favorite fall to such a low standard. If nothing changes, I can’t see them staying in business for more than a...
Read moreHad lunch at Borneo Asian Food in Permaisuri Mall. The environment was clean and comfortable, and the staff were friendly and polite always a plus point when dining out.
I ordered the Asam Fish Eco, which is one of my all-time favourites here. The flavour was spot on tangy, savoury, and goes really well with rice. I’ve had it multiple times and it never disappoints.
Overall, most of the food was satisfying. Portion sizes were just nice and everything else tasted freshly cooked.
However, the fried chicken this time was a bit of a letdown. The coating was thick and hard, and the chicken felt like it had been cooked earlier — not freshly fried. That made it a bit dry and tough to enjoy. Usually, their fried chicken is okay, so maybe it was just off that day. But still, quite noticeable especially when you’re dining in during lunchtime.
Would still come again for the Asam Fish and other dishes, but I hope they can improve consistency on the...
Read more4 star for the staff service which was prompt. Food was served very fast too. Kudos to the attitude of the young staff members which seems to have improved tremendously. There is no one pestering me to pay the bills too, just a Pro Forma Invoice discretely stuck at the side of the table using celotape so it won't fly away. So very thoughtful.
Now the food and drinks. I had the cappuccino. Rich thick coffee. The staff didn't give me any sugar. Hmmmm. But it was good too. Forces me to start drinking real coffee without sugar, and it was surprisingly nice.
I ordered the Borneo mackerel with rice. The twin fish were nicely fried. It was juicy. Only thing is that doesn't have the sweetness of really nice ikan kembong. Perhaps a proper chef is needed to guide the young chef...
