Review for Jothy's Fish Head Curry Banana Leaf Restaurant:
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Jothy's Fish Head Curry Banana Leaf Restaurant, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. This restaurant undoubtedly serves the best Banana Leaf rice in Sabah, and I dare say, the best in the whole of Malaysia.
The highlight of my meal was definitely the fish curry and dhal. The flavors were simply outstanding, and the fish head was cooked to perfection. Each spoonful of curry was a burst of spicy and tangy goodness, complemented perfectly by the creamy and flavorful dhal. It was a true delight for my taste buds.
Another standout dish was the crispy and delicious fried bittergourd and fried brinjal. The bitterness of the gourd was expertly balanced with the crispiness of the batter, resulting in a truly addictive combination. The fried brinjal was equally enticing, with its crispy exterior and melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Apart from the fantastic food, one aspect that really stood out to me was the impeccable service. It was clear that the staff was well-trained and dedicated to providing the best dining experience possible. Probably because the owner himself is often present at the restaurant, ensuring that everything runs smoothly. This personal touch definitely made a difference and added to the overall warmth and hospitality of the place.
In conclusion, I highly recommend Jothy's Fish Head Curry Banana Leaf Restaurant to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. From the delectable fish curry and dhal to the crispy fried bittergourd and brinjal, every dish surpassed my expectations. Combine that with the impeccable service and the presence of the owner, and you have a truly outstanding restaurant that should...
Read moreWe went for lunch here. While ordering, the owner abruptly stopped us, claiming that our order was "too much." This isn’t the first time we’ve encountered this kind of behavior. Back in 2021, the owner’s wife did something very similar, and I decided to stop patronizing this establishment. However, since my partner insisted on giving it another chance, we returned today—only to experience the same poor treatment once again. Seem like double standard is a familial trait here.
What’s more disappointing is the clear double standard. The owner treats customers dressed "properly" with extra courtesy, while those of us in casual attire are made to feel unwelcome. I can’t carry my doctor and CEO titles everywhere I go—what I wear is my personal choice, and it shouldn’t affect how I’m treated.
I’ve dined at Gordon Ramsay restaurants and many Michelin-starred places with the same casual dress code (T-shirt and shorts), but none of them ever treated me the way I was treated here. It’s frustrating and unprofessional to be judged based on what I wear, and I refuse to have my appearance dictate my worth as a customer.
Now, here’s the kicker: I paid rm 135 for a meal that should’ve cost rm 50 at most. When I pay more, I expect tasty, clean food. Instead, I paid for an expensive ticket to Diarrhea Town. Seriously, I’m disappointed at the value for money. I could’ve eaten something half the price and still gotten a better experience—both in food, service and health.
Both my partner and I are now feeling nauseated and having diarrhea after eating here. This will be the last time we ever step foot in this restaurant. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. You can get better food and service at a fraction of the price—and without the side of...

I’ve eaten at Indian restaurants across the U.S. and India and this is easily one of my favorites.
We found ourselves eating at Jothy’s twice during our 5 day stay in KK. Both experiences superb! At the end of our second meal, the gracious owner even gave us a Roti Tissue on the house, just unbelievable!
Food is made with extremely fresh ingredients ,well spiced, and made to order. Nothing stale, luke-warm, or bland. And if you do have an issue, just let the staff know because the service is impeccable.
During our two visits we went through probably a third of the menu.
Personal favorites include garlic&onion roti, fried squid, mutton varuval, chicken 65, sliced fish curry. Don’t forget to order a Teh Halia or Masala Tea on the side, both were excellent.
I highly recommend pairingThe dishes with the many rotis and/or poori. Rotis were flaky, buttery, and cooked to perfection. Beautiful layers and elasticity that soak up curry like an sponge. Close your meal with Roti Tissue, a “dessert roti”, a crispy/sweet showstopper that is sure to impress.
I confess that we didn’t try any of the rice, but the rotis were just...
