부모님을 모시고 떠나코타키나발루 여행 동안 두 번을 방문했습니다. 다른 샵을 이용하지 못해 비교를 할수는 없으나 겪은 경험 그대로를 적고자 합니다. 리조트 체크인 전 시내에서 받을 수 있는 마사지샵을 알아보던 중 Relax Corner 마사지샵을 알게 되었는데 저희는 인원이 6명인지라 동시 진행이 어렵다고 해서 같은 곳에서 운영하는 소울 릴렉스로 예약을 했습니다.

낮에 한 첫 방문은 어른들도 만족해하셨어요. 그러다 기존에 예약하려던 호텔 마사지 예약이 불가해져서 대안으로 이곳을 재방문하게 되었습니다.

예약 전에 픽업 시간과 마사지를 카톡으로 모두 미리 예약하고 컨펌을 받았습니다. 어른들을 모시고 하는 여행이라 '모든 게 확실'한지 거듭 확인하고 답변을 받았어요.

식사 후에 샵에 도착한 시간이 21시 45분. 비행기 스케줄에 맞춰 11시에는 떠날 수 있도록 45분의 스톤 마사지, 1시간의 바디마사지, 30분 발마사지를 각각 예약했습니다. 스톤마사지를 예약한 저와 동생이 먼저 방에 들어갔으나 탈의 등의 안내도 없이 안내인은 떠나버렸고 스톤마사지가 처음이었던 저희는 탈의 여부를 알수가 없었기에 입실 상태 그대로 룸에서 5분 이상을 기다릴 수 밖에 없었습니다.

한참 뒤 한 마사지사가 들어왔고 어떤 인사도 안내도 없이 옷을 입고 기다리는 우리를 보더니 크게 한숨을 푹 쉬고선 굉장히 과격하게 물건들을 툭툭 내려놓고 노골적으로 짜증 섞인 목소리로 누가 스톤 마사지를 할 거냐 물었습니다.

우리 두 사람 모두 스톤을 예약했다 하니 한 명만 예약했다 주장했고 메시지 내역이 있다 하니 한숨을 푹 쉬며 밖으로 나가버렸습니다. 기분도 불쾌했거니와 무엇보다 이미 부정적인 인상을 주는 사람에게 편히 몸을 믿고 맡길 수가 없어서 리셉션에 상황을 설명하고 테라피스트 변경을 요청했습니다.

잠시 기다려달라던 시간이 10분 가까이 지체되었고, 스톤마사지를 할 수 있는 대체 마사지사가 없는 것 같았기에 시간이 지체되고 있으니 일반 마사지를 받겠다 했지만 리셉션 매니저는 이미 마사지사가 오는 중이라며 우리를 설득했습니다. 그러던 중 그녀는 스톤 전에 손으로 몸을 풀어주면 좋다면서 우리가 예약한 마사지 외에 추가로 바디마사지를 받을 것을 추천했는데 우리가 부모님을 기다리게 할수는 없다하니 몇 분(few minutes)차이라면서 설득하기에 바디마사지를 현장 추가했습니다.

이내 마사지사가 도착했고 마사지를 시작하는 과정에서 매니저가 우리에게 바디 마사지를 권했던 이유를 짐작하게 되었습니다. 미리 준비되어 있었어야 할 스톤이 준비되지 않았기에 데울 시간을 벌어야 했던 거였습니다. 30분 가까이 소요된 시간으로 인해 결국 마사지가 끝나고 나니 11시 30분이었고 알고 보니 부모님과 다른 일행들은 우리를 기다리느라 40분을 앉아 있었다고 했습니다. 어른들을 기다리게 할 수 없다고 몇 번이나 말했고 공항 또한 엄연히 도착해야 할 시간이 있는데 그 어느 하나 지켜진 게 없다는 사실이 너무나 무책임하게 느껴졌습니다.

공항에 서둘러 가야 했기에 우선 결제부터 마치고 이동 중 카톡으로 불쾌했던 직원의 태도부터 미흡했던 준비로 인한 시간 지연 등에 대해 입장을 전달했으나 매니저는 '시간이 지연된 건 마사지사 변경 요청 때문'이라며 책임을 회피했습니다. 예약 시 나누었던 카톡 내용을 보여주며 이야기하자 그제야 미안하다며 다음에 오면 무료 마사지를 보상으로 제공하겠다고 했습니다.

여행 온 국가에서 재방문 보상 제안이 무슨 의미가 있나요? 무례했던 첫 테라피스트를 제외하면 예약 건에 대한 준비와 응대 모두 미흡했던 관리자의 잘못이지 직원들의 잘못은 아니기에 비용 지불에 대해 클레임 할 생각은 없었습니다. 처음부터 실수를 인정하고 빠르게 사과를 했더라면 좋았을 것을 유감입니다. 프로페셔널한 운영방식과 시간 처리 그리고 태도를 원하시는 분들께는 추천하지 않습니다.

We visited this shop twice during our trip to Kota Kinabalu. While our first visit was satisfactory, the second was deeply disappointing due to poor management and unprofessional service.

We booked 45-minute stone, 1-hour body, and 30-minute foot massages, ensuring a strict timeline due to our flight. Despite confirming all details in advance, the visit was riddled with issues. Upon arrival, there was no guidance, and we were left waiting awkwardly. A rude therapist eventually entered, sighed loudly, and questioned our booking. After further delays and poor communication, I requested a therapist change, only to wait another 10 minutes.

To cover their lack of preparation (the stones weren’t ready), they persuaded us to add a body massage, which delayed us even more. By the time we finished, we were 30 minutes behind schedule, leaving my elderly parents waiting for 40 minutes.

When I raised these concerns, the manager deflected blame onto us for requesting a therapist change. Only after showing proof of our prior communication did they apologize and offer a complimentary massage for a future visit—a meaningless gesture for travelers.

From the moment I stepped in, I was welcomed with warm hospitality and a calming ambiance that immediately put me at ease. The atmosphere is beautifully designed — clean, tranquil, and infused with soothing aromas that set the perfect tone for relaxation.

I tried their signature foot spa and body massage, and it was truly exceptional. The therapist was highly skilled, attentive to pressure points, and very professional throughout. Every movement was precise and healing — you can really tell they are well-trained in traditional techniques.

The foot soak was heavenly, and the massage helped relieve my tension and stress completely. I walked out feeling refreshed, recharged, and lighter than air!

I had such a wonderful massage experience in Kota Kinabalu today! Gingging and Livia were absolutely amazing – they were so professional, kind, and genuinely put a lot of care into their work. Every movement was thoughtful, and I could really feel their effort throughout the whole session. It was incredibly relaxing and refreshing – I felt all my tension melt away.

I truly appreciate how attentive and considerate they were. Thanks to them, it became one of the most memorable parts of my trip. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a high-quality massage with heart!
