Love the dining environment. I sat upstairs where they have a nice bar at the corner. The seating is comfortable with good space in between tables. Decor is meanwhile cozy with a relaxing colour theme.
Jason was friendly and made the dining a wonderful experience. As far as food is concerned, enjoyable and delicious except for the pork.
We started with the corn rib. Unbelievably sweet with a great char that lent a different dimension to the taste of sweet corn. Superb start that was made better by the prawn bisque. The aroma and heavy taste of the stock leaves no doubt the generosity of prawn and crab shells used to make this particular soup stock. The intense flavour gives a delicious kick to the taste buds that is hard to replicate. I only wished I ordered an extra grilled bread to go with it.
As for the mains, the Chilean cod was a flavour light dish. Loved it though. The fish was perfectly cooked. Soft, moist with a nice skin to give a textural contrast with the meat. The sauce was light and playful to the palate. Wonderfully flavoured. The unexpected component was the layered potato bacon. Somehow, the taste just clicked. Delicious.
The pie pastry is simply superb. Light and crunchy, it's incredible. The filling's gravy had a heavy taste with heavy aroma. With the chunky lamb meat, this is the epitome of what lamb pie should taste like. A little nitpick would be the tougher than expected lamb meat. I would have preferred it to be more tender. Pies shouldn't need to have excessive chewing I feel.
As for the spaghetti king prawn pasta, I made the mistake of ordering the bisque earlier. They taste pretty similar which brought down the enjoyment as the memory of the bisque was still fresh in my mind. Not taking away from this dish, it was still spectacular just that it's too similar to my earlier dish. I shouldn't order this two together for my next visit. Still, the slightly hard spaghetti and the fresh prawns swam perfectly in this seafood broth.
The Iberico pork chop was the least impressive dish here. Quite average, the meat was strangely tough to me and a little dry. The sauce was pretty average but the apple mash was a nice surprise. Tart and sour, it combined well with the meat, at least providing a little moistness to it.
Tarte Tatin however is an interesting dessert. It had a mixture of multiple texture and taste contrast giving your taste buds a workout, especially the highly sour preserved apple. If you are sleepy from your filling meal, this will wake you up.
Even with the pork hiccup, the environment, dining comfort and the generally impressive dishes overall still makes it a great place to...
Read moreBeach St Bistro is a delightful dining spot that strikes a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. Located in the heart of George Town, it's just a short stroll from the city’s iconic street art and heritage attractions, making it a convenient stop whether you're exploring the area or planning a special meal. For drivers, there’s a paid parking lot about 100 meters away, so access isn’t an issue.
From the outside, the restaurant is unassuming, but once you step in, the atmosphere immediately changes. It’s quiet, classy, and tastefully designed, creating a serene environment that feels like a world away from the bustling streets outside. The space is ideal for those who enjoy a peaceful, refined dining experience—whether you’re on a date, catching up with friends, or just looking for a calm spot to enjoy a good meal.
Do make a reservation before you come—walk-ins might leave disappointed as the restaurant tends to fill up quickly, especially during peak hours. It’s a popular spot for a reason, and securing a table ahead of time ensures you get to enjoy the experience without hassle.
One of the things that really stands out here is the service. The staff are warm, friendly, and professional. They pay attention to the little things—like checking in just the right amount and making thoughtful recommendations. It’s clear they take pride in both the food and the guest experience.
Now let’s talk about the food, which was truly impressive. The grilled corn is a must-try. It might sound simple at first, but it’s surprisingly flavourful—beautifully charred, seasoned just right, and served in a way that elevates it beyond your typical side dish. It was easily one of our favourites.
We also had the Wagyu rib eye, and it did not disappoint. The meat was juicy, tender, and rich with flavour. Cooked to perfection, it came with sides that complemented the steak without overpowering it. The portion was satisfying and well worth the price, especially given the quality of the cut.
While those were our highlights, the rest of the menu looked equally tempting, and we’ll definitely be returning to try more. The presentation of the food was clean and elegant, matching the overall vibe of the bistro. It’s clear that care and craftsmanship go into every dish.
Overall, Beach St Bistro offers a wonderful dining experience—from its convenient location and stylish, quiet atmosphere to its excellent food and attentive service. Just be sure to book a table in advance to avoid...
Read moreThis place is a melting pot of visual and gastronomic pleasures. The ambience is simply lovely: a wonderful marble communal table greets you right beyond the entrance; with tasteful decor and thoughtful touches extending throughout the establishment. Service is stellar as well - big kudos to the team for making us feel welcome and properly taken care of during our meal.
But we're here for FOOD (and drinks) and this is where Beach St. Bistrot truly excels. The ingredients shine brightly here - well-sourced quality ingredients is the foundation of great food and over here the sheer quality cannot be overlooked. Flavors come a close second, with the overall flavor profiles veering closer towards robust, decadent and full of depth. We eat out to indulge, and boy if you like rich umami flavors with oodles of depth, you're in for a real treat. The lamb pie, Burrata, paella, grilled corn ribs were some of the best we've ever had. Their high-end Mibrasa charcoal oven has been well worth the investment: the 'char' (western wok hei?) is simply fantastic and infuses the food with appropriately smoky aromas that you just don't get with conventional gas grills. Lastly, the signature pink sangria, tinged with freeze dried dragonfruit for a surprisingly thoughtful aesthetic touch, is absolutely delicious. Refreshing, potent and most of all, exceptionally balanced.
All in all, it's been a wonderful meal at Beach St. Bistrot. Highly, highly...
