Well where do I begin. To keep it short and precise and save us all some time here is what I think of this "steakhouse":
The lamb rib which I ordered (medium rare) was horrendous. The fats were not rendered well. The meat was not even close to what you would call 'cooked.' It would have been totally acceptable if the insides were red. But the insides were stretchy, white and I almost broke the plate trying to cut it up. It was literally as if the fry cook took a frozen lump of meat and dumped it on the fryer and took it out once the top was a little brown. For RM 78, this in layman terms is what we call daylight robbery. James Foo on the other hand, for a mere RM 36 will wipe this place with their floor mats as their lamb chops alone are properly cooked, with extra large portions and the meat is fresh.
Clearly this place is losing money. I have been a customer here since early 2021. Initially they had a minimum price range from RM 18 onwards (lamb chop, fish and chips etc.). All of a sudden entry level prices are at RM 33++ and the entire menu has been revamped so to speak to add to the "intricate details of a fine dining experience" (which is a butt load of crap because I do not go to establishments for Instagram but for the food, which is what a restaurant is for anyway). In this case, the "revamped" menu serves NO PURPOSE whatsoever.
The interior decor is outstanding, I will give you that. But it serves no purpose if the food is bad, the salt and pepper shakers seem like they were last replaced in 2020 and the staff are chatting wildly in a local dialect about very unprofessional topics in the presence of customers. Is the owner trying to introduce some kind of Yin and Yang concept in the F&B industry that we have yet to know about?
Overall, good decor, lousy food, bad customer service, overpriced menu. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AND GIVE JAMES FOO A TRY OR ANY OTHER WESTERN FOOD OUTLET IN PENANG FOR...

Date of Visit: 27/03/2024 2000H Receipt No: PDS025382
I visited the Emily’s tonight with high hopes for a delightful dining experience.
However, my visit took an unexpected turn when, midway through my meal, my friends and I noticed rats scurrying across the floor. This unsettling sight immediately soured the atmosphere and left us feeling extremely uncomfortable.
The presence of rats in the dining area significantly detracted from our enjoyment of the meal. It was impossible to ignore, and it raised serious concerns about the cleanliness and hygiene standards of the establishment.
This raises serious questions about the restaurant’s commitment to hygiene and sanitation standards. Despite their assurances and attempts to address the issue with rat traps, the fact that the problem persists is deeply concerning. It calls into question the overall cleanliness and safety of the establishment. One cannot help but wonder why the restaurant continues to operate without effectively resolving such a significant health hazard. This raises doubts about their dedication to ensuring the well-being of their customers and the integrity of their dining experience.
Adding to our disappointment, we were surprised to find that we were still charged for our meal despite the unsettling encounter. This unexpected charge only compounded our dissatisfaction with the overall experience.
Given this experience, we cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to others. We hope this review serves as constructive feedback for improvement in the future.
Should we develop any symptoms related to foodborne hazards after dining, we will not hesitate to contact the appropriate authorities and the person in charge to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to safeguard the health and...
Read moreThis place is an off shoot of their Derby (UK) branch and prides itself on their steak. For that, I can't comment as I didn't order any of their steaks. The place has a dark, quiet, upscale look to it. As the place has a long length to it, there's a front section and a back section. From the looks of it, also an upstairs section to it.
I was glad that their food comes hot and not one of the reheated types you sometimes get. I suppose this also means you gotta be a little patient while they prepare it.
Coming to the food, the seafood soup was a little light. Usually I expect a more robust flavor to it. And tbh I couldn't really appreciate the ginger element. However the crabpot was enjoyable. Again very light flavour. I think my tongue must be more accustomed with the over the top heavy hawker food taste.
Fortunately, as far as taste goes, the paella didn't disappoint. Full bodied with a good flavour punch, it delivered what it promised. The amount is also generous even for two. The large amount of seafood is much appreciated. Only the rice was a little overcooked. Nearly starting to turn into gruel. I think it needs a little less boiling time.
The fish and chips also came in generous amount. The fish is meaty and hence is the difficulty in properly cooking it. Some portions in the centre appear undercooked unfortunately. The peas and sauce was nicely prepared though. Not sure why but I felt there was an underlying 'less fresh' smell to it.
The spaghetti tasted delicious, again with good portions of beef bacon. In the end, I had a good meal in a nice environment but a little suboptimal for an establishment that I...
