This restaurant was super good! I'll admit it was my first time trying Bak Kut Teh but I was thoroughly impressed with a delicious meal. Granted, there are cheaper backpacker options to eat around town, but the food here was fairly priced for a clean, full service, air conditioned restaurant.
Although I went alone and still enjoyed my meal, I highly recommend going with a group of friends or family as the food is served family style and it will give you more chances to sample their wide variety of dishes offered on the menu.
Lastly the thing that left the best taste in my mouth was the excellent service. I clearly had no idea what I was doing and one of the staff came over and showed me how the locals mix up the sauces provided. The place apparently has 2 names - Yi Xiang or Hong Xiang Bak Kut Teh Anyway the soup is flavorful with each dish served in a petite over-the-fire style bowl. Cuts of meat are decent, and the intestines are cooked nicely; the other meats were a little rubbery and overcooked. Soup base is flavoursome but no kick.
Bit stingy with the 油条 (fried bread sticks) but meat and veggie serving was decent. Pricing is a little high.
Overall, like that lah. Not the best bak kut teh in Penang, but it's sate your cravings...
