Update 3: We keep coming back to this place for two reasons. One, the food is superb and two, the friendly service from the owner himself. He wears the Michelin badge lightly and is hands-on taking orders and serving tables. The nasi lemak with the chicken curry is hard to beat. So that's that and we will return for more 😋😊
Update 2: Still one of our family favourites. The service is spot on, friendly and warm. We always enjoy our conversations with the owner. The chicken curry and popcorn either with rice or noodles are worth the Grab ride. Prices are very reasonable. Keeps us happy and keeps us coming back 🍗 🍛 🍚 😋.
Update 1: Visiting Rasa Rasa after four months. Absolutely worth it. The service is spot on and attentive and yet very discreet. We ordered the same food again and the chicken curry brought back so many warm memories from a previous meal that you never forget. The plates were emptied quickly. For drinks we ordered the Milo Dinosaur again which was substantial and yummy. But we also had the coconut milkshake and the lemon aloe vera which were so refreshing and chilled perfectly. Keep the good flavours going and we will keep coming back.
Original review: Penang has a reputation of being a food paradise. But we have had some iffy experiences. However, our meal at Rasa Rasa has to be among the best we've had since our move here. My family and I all had the signature Pandan Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry and it was a tasty celebration of the right amount of spice, richness, colour and flavour. Just an awesome piece of mastery in the kitchen. We also added an order of the Kaya butter toast and it was a great balance of sweetness of the kaya with the butter. Our drinks - cold milk coffee, iced barley blue pea drink and the Milo Dinosaur - were extremely well prepared too. The owner of Rasa Rasa took time to come over to our table and explain the different dishes, and also checked in after the meal to see if we had enjoyed the food. Great service, good portion sizes, cool ambience, all without drilling a hole in the pocket. The Michelin recognition is not just randomly awarded, it is truly earned by Rasa Rasa. Hopefully, on our next visit we will be able to try some of the other dishes and drinks...
Read moreThis is a gem. If it wasn't mentioned on Michelin, I wouldn't have found this place. For that info, I am grateful.
All I can say is that the sambal is stupendous. An incredible interplay of flavour and spice. But if there's anything to warn, there's a slow burn component here you should be aware of. It sort of creeps up to you.
I ordered the nasi lemak with prawn, sotong and ju hu. Together with egg and the usual nasi lemak toppings, it's a huge generous portion. The total combination of texture, taste and colour makes it one of the most appetizing plate of food you will encounter.
The bihun was also delicious but cant beat the nasi lemak. The chicken roll is definitely worth a try. Well fried crispy skin with mouth watering filling. You can't ask for more.
The dessert complimented the end of the meal with its refreshing coconut and cold ice. I would've loved it if they were able to grind the ice into smaller crystals to make the...
Read moreCame here for the Michelin Star curry chicken nasi lemak. I walked into the restaurant at 1pm and was told that curry chicken has ran out. That’s early for a sell out.
There are other versions of nasi lemak too, I was spoiled for choice. Eventually I ordered the one with sambal ayam. The chicken came in slices fried in sambal. While I was cautioned about the spice level, it was acceptable. Not very spicy.
The sambal chicken was also fried in lady’s fingers and onions adding flavors and sweetness to the dish.
2 versions of sambal were also given. One red chilli and one sambal chili.
I shall make a way back for the star dish soon.
The environment is rather dimly lit and cosy for conversations, limited seats with good tables for big group and small group.
Restaurant only accepts cash or QR code payments. Additional 2% is charged to...
