This place is definitely much cozier and has better ambient than the original Toh Soon. It is however lacking the old feel vibe though that Penangnites love for a traditional toast and kopi o.
The food part though, having try most of its menu for breakfast what I can safely conclude is other than the toasts items the rest are not something that I recommend. The nasi lemak is fairly alright, the mee goreng mamak on the other hand is just blend and the prawn is not fresh at all, the fried beehoon is also so so.
Service on the hand is alright but certainly room for improvement. One thing that annoyed me is that food is often serve prior to bringing over cutlery. And one of our order was wrong despite it being recorded correctly in the order sheet.
Conclusion wise, if you are yearning for that old morning kopi o, toast and banana leave packed nasi lemak you are better off visiting the original Toh Soon plus it is certainly more...
Read moreThis is an expanded branch of the original reknowned Toh Soon roti bakar and kopi place. This place is now a proper shop lot offering a much more comfortable dining experience as opposed to the seatings in the alley way of the original outlet. Its interior is designed to mimic traditional houses in Penang. However this shop lot can be a little dark so perhaps more lighting can be set up. I came here today for their kopi in condensed milk and evaporated milk. In addition, I got their toasted polo bun and soft boiled eggs. The eggs were average and the polo bun was nicely served warm but could have had more spread of butter and kaya in my opinion. Sadly I did not get much of the aroma of their home made kaya and the salted butter. The kopi both were decent but I prefer the one with the...
Read moreToh Soon is a household name here in penang for their famous toast bread and food coffee located at a small nook in between shops. This is a giant leap from there and provides a wide arnage of food and coffee. They serves western and continental dishes which includes toasts and sandwiches. Besides that the classic Asia delights like nasi lemak, fried rice and even friend beehoon. Interestingly, even some snacks were served too like spring rolls. We tried sandwiches and also rice dishes which was surprisingly good. The portion jives well with the menu and looks way more appetizing than the picture. Overall, a good place to drop by if you want to venture out of the standard kopi houses and dine in for some good food with good local...
