Donkey and I, along with our group of friends, have been regular visitors to DaXia ShangShangQian, a hot pot restaurant in Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru. We keep coming back for the unique atmosphere, delicious food, and fun vibe. This place is a real standout among the hot pot restaurants in the area, and it's conveniently located near our bike washing spot, making it a great place to grab dinner while we wait for our bikes to be cleaned.
The restaurant is themed after Wuxia, a genre of Chinese fiction known for its martial arts and fantasy elements. It feels like we've stepped right into a scene from our favorite Wuxia movie! The moment we walk in, we're captivated by the vibrant and captivating decor. It's truly a feast for the eyes and a great way to kick off a delicious meal. We used to love how the staff would always greet guests with a cheerful "Huan Ying da Xia" upon entry, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere. However, on our recent visit, we noticed that they've stopped shouting the slogan, which was a bit of a bummer. We're not sure what changed. Despite that, the staff is still very friendly and helpful.
We couldn't resist trying the soup bases, and we were so impressed! The rich and flavorful broth was a standout, and we had to try the mala soup base – it was awesome, although a bit on the spicy side for those who aren't accustomed to the heat.
The food at DaXia ShangShangQian is also very reasonably priced, which is always a plus for us Singaporeans thanks to the exchange rate. However, for locals, the prices might be a bit steep. We highly recommend the pig blood (猪血), which was a delightful and unexpected treat. We also enjoyed a variety of other dishes, including the Three Broth Hot Pot, Iberian Pork + Pork Belly, Lamb Leg + Beef Rib Eye, Deep Fried Rice Cake with Brown Sugar, and the Signature Prawn Paste.
We also enjoyed the costume booth outside the restaurant, which added a fun element to our visit.

We found this hot pot restaurant on Google map and saw the review was pretty okay. So we took our chance and try it out. We were doing our groceries shopping at Aeon so it was pretty nearby.
We arrive at the restaurant around 8pm and got our tables in a jiff without much waiting. The decor looks interesting but no wow factors.
We place order for a yuan yang pot of mala and chicken soup base. Follow by sliced pork belly and shoulder. And a plate of sliced beef, with fried fish skin and bean curd skin. A portion of vegetables and meat balls to top it all off.
The mala soup was mild spice so was pretty okay for our taste. The chicken soup base was pretty good. The rest of the ingredients are pretty normal so nothing to shout about.
