Visited on a weekend evening for dinner. Was worried it would be crowded but was surprised that it wasn't. Went in and was showed to a table there were still a lot of seats available. The menu had lots of things to order but we decided to go along with a Set B first and see if we had extra space for additional stuff later. Turned out there was too much food and we were so full we didn't have space to order fried chicken! First came the banchan and was surprised that they served to many dishes! Did have a try at all and most of them were good, we did have more than half which we finished everything. First came all the side dishes. We had the corn cheese which felt weird cause it wasn't Korean I suppose, maybe looks interesting for family with kids but not exactly my favorite. Then came the kimchi pancake which was so crispy and hot and we loved it a lot. The steamed egg was also steaming hot with a lot of smoking coming out and we enjoyed it when it was hot. The soybean paste stew was good too, soup was rich and flavourful and could see they were generous in the ingredients. Even spotted crab in the soup! The meats were also served on a hot plate, which initially I felt weird cause I thought we would be doing the BBQ at our tables. Then I realized that they actually do not have the "chimneys" in the restaurant and would be quite a disaster to BBQ, which I quite appreciated as it doesn't stink our clothes and we get readily cooked meat served to us without any hassle. The meats were grilled to perfection and I loved the galbi so much. It was nicely marinated and flavourful. Was an enjoyable meal and was glad it didn't burn a hole in the pocket. Very full and very satisfied and really enjoyed the friendliness of the Korean...
Read moreWe had decided to give this a try after reading the reviews…mostly very positive. When we entered the restaurant, it was pretty quiet with just 2 tables occupied (excluding the table where the lady boss was dining with her friends). The staff were so free that they were playing jostling with each other. We had ordered a BBQ beef set as well as a raw soy crab set. They served a variety of banchan which we found two of the banchans not tasting fresh. We returned one which the lady boss trashed…but she insisted that the steamed pumpkins were fresh as they were made in the morning. Well, it doesn’t necessarily mean that when it was made in the morning, it will definitely stay fresh till night. The food arrived and we were surprised that the meat was already cooked as we had expected that we grill the meat, at our table, to the done-ness we desired. Instead, the meat was grilled (behind the counter ) and served cooked. Unfortunately, the beef was overcooked and dry. The raw crabs were small in size and there was no roe. The lady boss helped us mixed the crab meat into the rice. Strangely, the was a limitation of dried seaweed in this restaurant. The only time we saw dried seaweed was in the rice for the raw crab. Also,, there was some strong-flavoured green vegetable ( I think were shiso leaves) that were mixed into the rice. There was so much of it that it masked the taste of the crab. This was disappointing. The food quality was not what were described in the reviews. After a while, we were not even excited to even take pictures of the food nor finish them….which was a pity on the wastage. Also, they said they served halal food but they have pork on the menu. (Hmmmm…..strange). Will...
Read morePlace: air-conditioned restaurant with ample comfy seats and wooden tables for family or individuals. They are apparently the MOST AUTHENTIC Korean shop in Johor. A word of caution, order carefully and only add-on when uve eaten at least half way through what uve already ordered. Otherwise, it might be too much.
Service: the boss herself is willing to get down and do the ground work and can speak, English, Bahasa, Mandarin and (of course) Korean, which was what I liked and admired about her and the service. She was also kind to suggest a smaller portion to us instead allowing us to order out of our hunger. 5 stars.
Food:
Assorted dishes: I liked the kimchi and pickled based dishes and lady's fingers. The kimchi soup itself lacked acidity and depth and seemed like a very diluted version of their kimchi itself. The ginseng chicken soup was rich and packed with flavour!! Didn't care about the corn cheese. Verdict: loved some and didn't care for others but overall, still a good experience.
BBQ beef and pork: the taste are great, but being served right at the end of the meal, after the many MANY small dishes and cards, it make this dish less appealing or appetising. Instead some might even get bloated by the time the meats do make the table. The beef rib eye (RM90) taste like marinated in satay sauce. Others were so so la....
