Had the worst experience having dinner there for Mother's Day and my son 14th birthday. The variety of food is not that great for the rating and reviews they get for a 5 star hotel cafe. Was about to leave the cafe when i get to see a cockroach at the bowl of noodle at the noodles corner and what came straight to my mind is that..OMG! I last ate at the noodles corner! And immediately i felt vomitting out whatever i had eaten..Met the supervisor and the Front Desk Manager in regards to this issue as i had taken a picture of the cockroach inside the bowl of noodle but was quite taken aback when they say they have this issue and that they have pest control every week but i guess whatever they had done is not good enough as the issue is still persisting. One great take from them is they had complaints of diners seeing a cockroach on the floor etc but not in the food..I was quite taken aback and the first thing that came to my mind is that do they really know the seriousness of this issue of having a cockroach inside the bowl of noodle? HYGIENE! IF THE COCKROACH CAN BE INSIDE THE BOWL OF NOODLE ALIVE AND KICKING! HOW ABOUT THE HYGIENE OF ALL THE OTHER FOODS! At this point of time to me given what i saw and how they do service recovery totally failed! Even after they give a discount on the total i had pay..doubt it could erase that very unpleasant experience eating there and whatever they say...i would never feel assured that whatever i had eaten...

After surveying few other hotels, Renaissance was our choice for buffet breakfast. Renaissance stood out in her lovely soft ambience, very literally well spread food stations, unlike some others, food stations seemed to be tuck in behind pillars or all over the place, possibly due to space constraints. Very appealing and comfortable to reach for food. Sitting area was comfortably spaced out. Excellence spread of small bites size, smoked salmon, charcuterie board, Indian station with the happy Chefs, muffins, cakes, Danish, probably the best croissants too. They even have egg benedict sans bacon🤭stil great Kudos to the Chef whom made the Tiramisu, really awesome

Highly creative Balloontrixer, Uncle Fishy really made our day, bringing out the kids IN us too lol.... Most importantly, BLD staff stood out in friendliness, strong professionalism and product knowledge. Particularly Ms Ella and Ms Mira. Thumbs up to all the service staff really, especially around our area. Go to tableapp, one gets 10%. In-house parking fee can be offset too. Renaissance BLD You are AWESOME ❤️ Customer care is your top priority Thank you so much for your exceptional hospitality and...

Horrible food for dinner buffet. Lamb was bland/rubbery. Mushroom sauce tasted like diluted water with no seasoning. Mushroom chicken was dry and hard with no taste. Fish not cooked well and has fishy taste. Drink selection only either rose syrup? Tea or coffee. No self service cold water and plain water is only served by a waiter. Only edible item was the vegetable soup which is hard to mess up. Poor selection of food, no soup no drink options. Desserts were small mini cakes which had some small flies on the purple cakes and the decorations on the cake were inconsistent, like some creme or piece missing. Probably catered from outside and not made in-house and they can’t even display it right. Feels like everything is been left in the open and I’m eating leftovers from last night. Everything just points to bad management. Do not waste time coming here. Could not eat much and had to get dinner somewhere else. While walking out, saw two customers complaining about lunch service to counter. What a joke of a dinner service.

Edit: After looking through several low star reviews, it seems like this is a common issue here that has not been resolved for a...

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Wonderful Birthday Celebration Experience! I chanced upon this restaurant just two days before my dad’s birthday and was pleasantly surprised to find that they offer a Sunday buffet spread — something quite rare in Johor Bahru, where most hotels only have buffets on Fridays and Saturdays. Despite making a last-minute reservation for 7 people, the staff were kind enough to accommodate us. The food was amazing — while the Sunday buffet doesn’t include the outdoor live BBQ, salmon, crabs, or lobster like on Fridays and Saturdays, the rest of the spread was top-notch and did not disappoint at all. My whole family thoroughly enjoyed the two hours we spent there. What truly made the experience special was the hospitality of the staff. They were warm, attentive, and even went the extra mile by helping us surprise my dad with a birthday cake and a cheerful birthday song! They were incredibly cooperative when we told them it was a surprise, and helped keep everything under wraps until the big reveal. Thank you so much for making my dad’s birthday so memorable. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and will be back again soon!

The buffet restaurant at the Renaissance Hotel is impressively spacious, offering a wide selection of dishes for its breakfast buffet. Guests can enjoy everything from classic Western options like eggs and pastries to hearty Indian dishes, flavorful Chinese items, and a variety of local Malay specialties. One of the standout features is the abundance of coffee stations, ensuring you won’t have to wait long for your morning cup. During my weekend stay, the restaurant was very lively, with many families dining together. While this created a cheerful atmosphere, it also meant that the floor and buffet area occasionally became messy, which slightly affected the overall dining experience. On the positive side, the hotel makes a clear effort to cater to families—there was even a clown making balloon figures to entertain the kids, which kept them happy and added a playful touch to the morning. Despite the busyness, the buffet experience was enjoyable overall. With its wide range of food options, family-friendly vibe, and attentive touches, the restaurant provides a satisfying start to the day for both hotel guests and visitors.

Went there on Tuesday night to celebrate my birthday. I can say its definitely not up to par. There was no lamb, salmon or oyster. Even the seafood on ice consists only mussels and prawns (the prawns tasted weird). Most of the food were too oily, causing me to have stomachache the next morning. Satays were burnt at the top, and the sauce was overly oily. Rojak sauce tasted bitter, sushi rice was too sticky. The rice provided wasn't even fragnant rice, just typical mamak stall rice. Sea bass was dry as hell. The only thing that I enjoyed thoroughly was the catfish, however that was also a tad bit on the oily side. You only get orange juice, coffee or hot tea for drinks selection. The most disappointing thing was the dessert, I went there at 7.30pm and throughout my whole 2 hours there, the dessert spread was not refilled. I did not get to try cheese cake, cream puff and so on.. For the price of RM79.20 (after 10% discount), I'd recommend you to eat normal buffet that ranges from RM30~40. Never went there before so I couldn't compare it with previous experience, but I definitely won't miss going back.
